Default Ad placement that made me laugh..
I was perusing the SBI forums when I clicked on someone's website...
Ontario Motorcycle Rides for all points in Ontario, Motorcycles, Apparel, Gadgets and Gear

I noticed the length of the page and the scroll bar so I decided to scroll all the way down, when I noticed a banner ad that made me laugh because of how it was placed.

(Go ahead and see for yourself)

I have never seen an ad placed like that on a website, it sure got my attention

This site has a lot of non Adsense ads. The webmaster has done a great job marketing his ad spaces. If he can sell ad spaces directly, it is very reasonable for him to put Adsense there.

I just thought it was funny because from a design perspective, it is in a very weird place. It is actually outside of the content area of the design. Most people put ads inside the content area.

I guess you may have to be a website owner/user to think it's funny. Or maybe I'm just weird.

LOL. Horrible banner ad placement. I would not want to be the dude paying money to be OUTSIDE of the content area on that INCREDIBLY over advertised website. The pop up box was the kicker... wow

Guys, he has a lot of direct ads. He wants his visitors to click on those direct ads so that the advertiser will renew contract in the next round. What is so funny about?

I think it looks better outside than it would inside, makes it stand out.

Anyone have much success with ads right at the bottom of the page? (inside or out :P)

I agree that it probably gets more clicks on the outside, since it is way more noticeable.

Secondly, no, I have never tried placing ads at the bottom of a page.

If the ad were inside the content area, it couldnt be nearly as large.

And the graphics in the ad are so busy, it wouldnt work very well smaller.

Although if it were reformatted vertically it would work on the side...but there are already so many ads on the sides, perhaps they think it would get lost in the crowd.

I agree that he top of the page would definitely be a better spot for it than at the bottom.
