Default Your reaction to this offer?

I found this offer being discussed on a business forum This guy is offering a 3 session teleconference course on doing JVs. Now here's the odd part. It's free, but he wants you to give him your credit card number beforehand and authorize a $250.00 penalty payment in the event that you either hang up on any of the calls before they are over or if a random spot check reveals that you are not at your phone actually listening.

I quote from his offer:
I recognize that you will have operators verifying, checking and spot monitoring me on my lines to make certain I do, actually, participate fully. And, if I miss a call, show up late or leave early, you are authorized by me to charge my credit card below for the $250 non-attendance penalty that you clearly explained in the e-mail invitation I’m replying to now.
I have never seen such an offer before.

Ever.

What's your reaction to it?

It might be a sales pitch conference. Like how there's usually a bowl at the front of a restaurant to put your business card in, that promises a free lunch or free movie tickets if you sit through the presentation. Since it's on the phone, it's much harder to verify that you're actually there.

But he will have operators checking to see if people are really listening. I sit on an a teleconference call at least once a week on avg and have never seen this done before.

That definitely seems dodgy to me. I'd advise to avoid!

Default Don't do it!

Why would you even think of giving your cc number to this guy for a "free" seminar? Theres nothing he can "train" you on over the phone that you can't find through more legit sources. Don't do it. Next thing you know you'll have a huge cc bill for charges you possible "authorized" him to charge unknowingly.

The surprising thing is that it's a big name: Jay Abrahms.

Just proves there can be snakes out there, and they don't have to be small to be dodgy.

I wouldn't take a bar of it.

My reaction: I would see no reason whatsoever to have anything to do with the guy, and I'd focus more on people who aren't going to waste my time.

I would get my hands off.

Still, it is pretty interesting. He will probably make a nice pile of cash from these charges, although chargebacks are something that he has to count with.

It's just another marketing tactic - more on the dodgy site though.

I know all the advice you've gotten so far is to bug off, but I'm going to take a slightly different view here.

First, let me qualify that with the fact that I've been at that exact phone call. I didn't have to give him my credit card number though, probably because it was a joint venture with one of his partners who connected me with the call.

Why are they doing this? Because they don't want you to waste their time, not the other way around. Jay charges over $5,000 per hour for one on one consulting over the phone. There are only so many spots available on each call and his time is worth so much he probably doesn't want to risk having a less than 100% full call.

Jay is funny like that. First you've got to show that you are committed. Then, you've got to follow through and he'll give you all kinds of information.

Anyhow, should you do it?

Well, are you committed? You're the only one who can answer that.

I'm going to be on that series of calls.

And I didn't think twice about it because part of my educational plan for this year was to do a Jay Abrahams course and to learn about Joint Ventures before the end of this quarter.

Seemed like a no brainer to me.

I believe in what he has to offer and I know I'd pay a whole lot more to learn Joint Ventures from him. Abrahams comes highly recommended by many of my mentors and peers. Why wouldn't I want to learn from someone like that?

His idea of placing a financial hold on not following through with your commitments isn't the first time it's been done. Others have used some dollar amount hold to weed out people who are 'interested' by a free course but not committed to following through with what they'd learn.

I would agree with this. I have been to many free seminar where you have to sign up and they will do what they say, there reputation is standing. You will hear people being vary, but if the person is like Jay, you will not hear about him ripping people off. That is not his business, he is serious about his time. I personally know people who put on events and they make $4,000 (at $100 each) from people who do not show up. Yes, they get a nice pile of cash, however they state it before and of course they will try to sell you something, that is why it FREE!!!

Thanks,

Because of Jays reputation I think their is nothing wrong to go with the offer.

Actually the offer is very nice Viral Marketing, we are talking about it . The man is just a genuis at marketing his stuff.
