Default Several domain names pointing at the same website

After picking apart a few websites on page 1 of google for a particular search query, I conclude that there's nothing particularly special in the websites (they're quite simple and don't slather themselves in SEO type words), but most of them include the keyword as part of the domain name.

If I get a few different domain names using a particular keyword and pointing at one website, how does google rank them? Does it depend on whether they are domain forwarders or 'add on domains' (necessitating copying the website).

If I do that, would it be best to have a separate landing page for each domain name, but all the internal links go to the same pages?

(This is NOT for affiliate marketing or anything like that, but for a small business).

There are several reasons why it is good to have multiple domain names pointing to one adress, but Google doesn't like it if you use this method simply for ranking purposes.

Having a keyword in the url is only 1 of 200 factors google uses to rank your page. If you want to rank high:

- find some good keywords
- build relevant backlinks (!!!)
- give it time (the older your site, the better)

This is all just pretty basic, if you want to learn how to rank high it's best to start learning about SEO. Http://warriorforum.com is a good place to learn!

Check how many backlinks these websites have.
Google got smarter regarding keywords and title tags. Backlinks are still hard to get.
You may rank on page #1 having enough backlinks to 1-page website in a very competitive market.

Good idea. Will do that.

Update: very instructive - one of the websites concerned has 673 backlinks!

Also checked my oldbag blog which has over 3000!!!
