What I have noticed with blogs and branding:

Brands (example):
website: Mashable, website: artofmanliness
twitter: mashable twitter: artofmanliness
youtube: mashable youtube: artofmanliness

Expert based business:

website: entreprenurs-journey website: iwillteachyoutoberich
twitter: yarostarak twitter: ramnit
youtube: yarostarak youtube: ramnitsethi

The reason I am sharing this is because it might be a good idea to think about what your trying to create, a brand or an expert based business.

I struggled with what to call my twitter account and Youtube (i have not settled on a name yet) but calling both super awesome dating was just what I had in mind, and now I understand. I am trying to build an expert based business. But if your building a brand, then it might be best to go with the site name through and through.

For example viperchill by Glen Allsop (excellent site btw, formerly of plugiinid) I think is making a mistake going with viperchill for all his social media accounts since he is really building an expert based business. I know many wont agree with the way I look at it, thats ok, poke holes in it and lets discuss.

So what are you trying to create with your site, a brand or an expert based business? Or a personal site? And what is the reason for your sites existence?

When people know your brand - they'll just search for the brand name and hit you directly.
