So my idea is to crawl the web looking for recipes and build an index that you can search by criteria like calorie range, percentages of carbs/fats/proteins, etc and then to be able to define different diets by sets of parameters on what foods are allowed or not. And have the user able to exclude certain ingredients or set up their own parameter sets. I have this idea because it is so frustrating to look for recipes for example for vegetarian dishes that don't use soy or cheese and are relatively low carb. I'll call it imonadiet.com and after I get it working Google will buy me out and I'll be a kajillionaire. What do you think? |

Ever since I got into web-design what I've found is that I've got too many ideas and not enough time to implement them. The trick is choosing exactly the best ideas you have, because you literally don't have ANY time to waste on flippant ideas. I'm not at all saying this idea isn't worth your time, I'm just saying if I were you I'd jot about ten ideas down before you begin investing the vast ammount of time required into one of them. |

Sorry just that recipe sites are over saturated, because so many people are trying to cash in on these types of sites. | |

Hey Lauxa, I just want to return to this because I hope no-one has put you off doing something creative. If you're set on the idea, DO IT. If this thread has put doubts in your mind, brain storm some MORE ideas and see what happens. Doing something is better than doing nothing. The point of this criticism is to say you should spend your time doing the BEST idea that you have, the one most likely to succeed, not for you to drop it altogether. |

Love the idea. Very creative and even if someone wants to steal it, you can still be successful as long as YOUR recipe index helps your audience and delivers what they are looking for. Personally I would never abandon an idea because other people are working on the same thing. Its like Ragstoriches said about the fact that there will always be more ideas than time. Best of luck, I will keep an eye on your project for sure! |

Make a huge recipe index. Then make a widget that uses Google Custom Search to search your site database. Then promote your widget on various app download sites. Whenever people search for something on the recipe widget, it only sends people to your site, giving you traffic. That way you don't have to deal with the competition from other recipe indexes (there's a lot of them.)
