Default Would you pay for this forum?

I would love to see the "server too busy" message disappear from this forum forever. I would be willing to pay a small fee (about $1-$5 per month) to make this happen. Anyone else?

Does anyone know how hard it would be to add a "premium" membership to vBulletin for preferential bandwidth handling?

The "server too busy" problems aren't actually due to too many people accessing the boards, they're due to problems with the server itself. I think Steve mentioned the actual bandwidth consumption is less than 5% at any time.

I don't think I would pay anything for the forum, honestly.

The forum doesn't even give moderators preferential bandwith handling

To answer your question directly, no.

The forum is good, and I enjoy reading and taking part in it, but I can't imagine paying for it. Paying for Steve's book or Erin's readings; yes, but not for a forum.

Too much competition out there... too many other free forums talking about mostly the same things as here.

How much are Erin's readings anyhow?

I don't think i would. I really like it, but as said above there are many free forums. I have financial priorities so i probably wouldn't.

Erin's readings are expensive. As in one hour with Erin = half of my home monthly mortgage repayment . BTW, not a critic, just stating a fact. People are free to charge anything they want for their services.

As stated before, the server problems aren't due to inadequate hardware or bandwidth. Those are more than adequate for our needs. Our web host is still trying to diagnose an OS/software issue that's causing the problem. This problem started after they performed an OS upgrade last month.

lol and I don't think anyone would honestly pay to use a forum.

It wouldn't be hard to just sprout up another one just like it that was free...

I pay ~$40 per year for another forum, even though I could access most everything on it for free. The payment is largely a sign of support since I like the site. If the pavlina forums had a pay component I wouldn't be opposed to it, but as others have said, that wouldn't fix the current issue.

Pro blogger?

That is the only forum I have heard of that charges a monthly fee.

I'd pay a small fee, but in return perhaps subscribers would receive 'additional content' not available to non-subscribers.

It's a popular model. Check out the Tuts + Network.

Imminst.org - Immortality Institute | Advocacy & Research For Unlimited Lifespans

The majority of the forum is free, but it does have membership options to support it as an organization.

Another that charges but that I have yet to join is Robert Scheinfeld's Phase 2 Players Community, at $50+ per month. As far as I know there is no free option with it, although forums are just part of the membership.

I wouldn't pay for what I'm getting now. If I were provided with an incentive and what's currently available remained free then I would at least give it a try.
