I'm going to give you 3 months. You're highly motivated. You have a budget of $500 to get started. You've never done this before or perhaps you've dabbled but you're not serious yet. Which of the following dollar amounts would seem difficult yet possible for you to make if you worked a few hours every evening for 3 months to make money online? _________________________ In your responses, I'm most interested in what dollar amount you think you could make, how much experience you have, and why you give that amount. I'm asking because a lot of people have psychological barriers to making money, and I want to see how those barriers manifest numerically. -Jesse P.S. I'm starting out right now, and making $400 or so would seem like a difficult but possible challenge if I were working part time. I am now working full-time, and to me, making $1000 in 3 months feels like a pretty hefty challenge. Last edited by Manomanman; 04-05-2010 at 04:38 AM. |

I'm going to say $3,000 would be a good challenge. Right now I'm making about $100 a month online, so of course this is a huge leap, but not impossible. And I say this because I am making strides in the last couple months that I had not made for the last several years...

$3,000 seems like a pretty good target for someone who is pretty new. In three months you could get a bunch of stuff done even in just a couple of hours a day. And I've been working online for like 2 years now so for me I'd go for the $5,000+ figure for myself but that's just because I have a bunch of resources and experience. |

I voted for $5,000 purely because I know how much money I can make freelancing/consulting online. But if I was to go for just ebooks/ads/'passive' income, I would probably go for about $500. |

I voted 5k because I have actually been able to generate this kind of revenue stream from less than a $500 startup project budget. If you asked me 2 years ago, I probably would have said $150 because I simply didn't know what the heck I was doing. The key difference is practice, patience and persistence. A lot of work went into the learning required to be able to generate this kind of revenue. I don't think it matters if we are talking online or offline, if you start with $500 operating capital, you are only going to be able to create income based on your knowledge and experience. Great question though. Thought provoking |

I'd say 500 dollars... Why? Not sure.. because it seems to be the most realistic in 3 months time working only in the evening a few hours. I'm thinking passive income from writing an e-book, which is something that I have been thinking about doing these last few weeks. I also have a blog, which I like doing, but I'm not doing... (my age old fear of success or fear of failure or simply laziness... who knows, I just know that as soon as things start going good, I stop doing them...) Maybe... Just maybe... If I could write 2 or 3 articles a week for 3 months that might bring some income as well.. but I'm not seeing it happen that it will bring more then 100 dollars a month.. Maybe from there I would sell my e-book (a step-by-step realistic guide on how to improve your sex life)... Or maybe the other idea I have been playing with... a blog with short erotic stories and the option of self publishing a book with short erotic stories... But I have no idea if there would be a market for erotic stories without pictures with the web already overflowing with porn... |

I've been trying to make money on my blog for 6 months. I've worked really hard at it, and post a new article just about every day. I've actually only made $40 because of one really awesome donor (I put up a donation request). The website is $25 every six months, so I guess I've made $15 on it. My ads don't get clicked, and while my readership goes up every month, it's a trickle, with about 6 new people every month. I've read and read and read about ways to make money using my blog, and haven't found anything useful. I'm still trying, but have basically decided I enjoy it so much, that if I make money from it cool, and if I don't, it's not meant to be. I admire those on here who say they make money with their websites. I would like to be able to do the same. I have not voted, because obviously it's possible, but how it happens, I have noooo idea.

Well, thank you. Hmmm, PR4 is kind of low, isn't it? Isn't 10 the highest? |

| Internet Business Blog - Entrepreneurs-Journey.com by Yaro Starak Pagerank 5. Gets millions of pageviews a month. Super-high-authority. In fact, he wrote a product on authority marketing. And he's PR5! Anyway, I'm going to be talking extensively about how to make money on my site. Long story short - You have a high-authority website that you could tap for INSANE profits right now if you made the right moves. -Jesse |

Hey Moxie, Consider signing up to BlogRollPlease.com - Buy & Sell BlogRoll Links -- they pay around $20 a month for a single text link on a PR4 blog. I had around 4 links running at one point (so around $90 a month). |

Moxie, I am interested to know how you got PR4 in such a short time? It is my understanding that PR is an indicator of web presence and maturity... Oh and your site has no title, and I'm guessing not much else SEO either. If you fix that up you would likely see a positive change in your traffic. Last edited by darkun; 04-06-2010 at 01:09 AM. |

$500 would turns to $5,200 passive per month within ninety days with the data that I use. No doubt. It would require lots of work for 63 days but after that it is done and part of that money would go into passive maintenance of the sites. ---now only put in a few hours (2) and those profits are cut to 1,200 per month. I prefer to bust it hard and then move on. Then ride the winners and build them out. Last edited by Piercetheveil; 04-06-2010 at 01:39 AM. |

One thing I have noticed in my SBI experience is that whether you have good traffic or not, websites that have a higher page count of original content tend to have higher PR on their home pages. For instance, my acupuncture site got to PR1 on the home page by the time it had about 80 pages, and I hadn't even done any link building. I can see a 300+ page site getting at least PR2 all by its lonesome self. AND... She also has a nice little inbound PR4 "do follow" link here:Daily News from the news experts at NewsBlaze Last edited by Curtis2011; 04-06-2010 at 02:02 AM. | |

It looks like things might end up in a trimodal distribution: You either think 50, 500, or 5000 dollars would be difficult in a 3-month time frame. Very interesting. I'm still interested in what barriers people think would hold them at that particular level. |

Well I've made about $80 this month from my trademe store and so that's for 6 days of the month; My Trade Me Store Minus materials and other fees that's about $50 profit. |

I would say $5000+ will be hard initially. I've already invested around $1000 so far on my online venture and is still in progress. So I will be spending another $2000-4000, for me I know I need to be patient. I am developing two actual products (no not books or content) it's cool to see it developing, but for me it will be slow and steady wins the race. I have not made any money so far, but I am not too worried about that, I am still at the developing stage...and off-line clients are coming out of the woodwork, so they pay for $$$$ I am not doing ebooks, blogging etc I looked into all that, but doesn't align with my personality. I mean I blog, but not for money. I don't have my blog here, because I want to keep my personal stuff separate to my business. Some people on here know my blog and my developments Last edited by ellie; 04-06-2010 at 06:49 AM. |

| It seems that making money online is a highly competitive venture, and whatever area I decide to get into, I'll be up against someone with more talent, better work habits, etc. Sure, I can learn to get better, but remember the question was about how much I could earn in 3 months.

This is really pretty interesting- thanks for posting this thread as it resonates with what I am trying to achieve. I think I just needed reminding to stay on track. I think $5000 would be an excellent goal- in £s it is a bit crazy but in $ it would be achievable. It would take a immense amount of work to set up in the beginning but the rewards would be fabulous. A passive income is something that I will achieve- just need to work out how now... |

I think $1 is a challenge because I've never earned money online. But once I earn the first dollar then I think it will be less of a challenge to increase it. The biggest challenge for me is to learn the skills necessary to get a website working. Once I've mastered that, then increasing from $1 to $10 to $1,000 is possible.

Hey Jesse!! Long time no chat. I'm loving the new chapter in your life and your avatar. You look much happier. Oh, and this poll is genius to ask. It's good to hear about peoples ideas, beliefs and experiences about making money online or what people think the learning experience would be like. It's interesting to see what people focus on around this topic. Anyone actually want to make a go of this kind of challenge? 30-60-90 Days, X hours per day, $XXX start up capital and see what happens at the end? Would be fun to do as a group. |
