Default Swinging Motivation

Hey All,

This is my first post in this forum. I am an entrepreneur from India. I use to work in a big consulting organization. I always knew that I wanted to be an entrepreneur even though in jobs that I held , I did pretty good. At last I got frustrated with politics, lack of recognition and personal desires , quit and started my portal.

I was well prepared for it . I researched and planned my project very well and was able to set up everything in just 3 months.

The business started around 2 weeks back . We had 10 online customer but no order yet( too early for it I know ). But what I am having now is motivation swings. I constantly think of the days when I had comfort of job while fully knowing that I would not like to go back . My wife still has a job and we dont have to sacrifice much. But I am constantly worried about that my venture will not be successful even though I know it is too early to say.

And when I think about these things , I feel it is ridiculous because everyone has to struggle before they can make it.

Maybe it is due to the fact that I was very good at my job and never had a problem. While in this venture , the success not only depends on keeping myself motivated but also everyone around motivated. That I have not been to achieve. I keep losing my motivation time and again 'despite having good idea about my situation'.

Is there any way , other entr. around here used to keep the motivation up and running.

I would love to hear from you .

Thanks for reading,
AKS

Hey AKS,

Just think of the potential returns, more money, more freedom and more security. Go out and get some sales... nothing happens in business until you make a sale. Nothing will give you more confidence and motivation that actually making some money for yourself, even if it is only a small amount. And just keep thinking about all the positives you'll have from this.

Keeping your motivation high is a problem for anyone setting audicious goals, not just entrepreneurs. A few things that have worked for me is keeping a set of clearly defined goals in clear view where I can see them, regularly rewrite my goals (a few times a week, even if I don't change the wording), share my goals with those who I think will help me accomplish them, keep a progress report so I know if I am succeeded, and finally understand my purpose as to why I want to accomplish these goals. If your purpose is weak and not in alignment with your values, then it will be difficult to maintain a strong motivation. For example, if your purpose to achieve financial security, but you think that being an entrepreneur is very risky, then it will be difficult to maintain your momentum if things become difficult.
