Exclamation Need some career advice (serious)

ok. I just recently graduated college with a diploma in general business which really means nothing. So I am going back to school this month and I am not sure what to study. I am thinking of specialising in something like Financial Planning (also a diploma). However I think a lot of people are graduating with degrees in the business field and someone like me with a diploma would not have much of a chance in getting a job.
My other option is the Information Technology Applications and Technical Support course. But this is only a 51-week Certificate program Since its a technical skill I probably have a better chance of getting a job after graduating. What do you guys think?

This is the course description if you are interested;
Quote:
The program will address fundamental skills in a number of areas including operating systems such as Windows and Linux, Health and Safety, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Electrical/Electronics, Soldering, Customer Service, Networking, Computer Maintenance, Job Search, Web Page Design, and Documentation. The graduate will be able to participate in technical conversations, install, configure, and operate standard office software applications and maintain the hardware components of office personal computers. They will be qualified to setup and maintain a standard networking system, create a full document system for tracking hardware/software and service calls, control and safety measures, and be capable of training staff. They would also learn how to design and maintain interactive web sites.

In some of the program courses, students follow the curriculum from the International Computer Driving Licence program. Those students who successfully pass the ICDL examinations will receive International Computer Driving Licence Certificates from ICDL.

It sounds like you need to develop some specific career goals. What are you most interested in? Which one is more closely matched with your preferred work style and work environment? Check with your college career center to see if free or affordable interest assessments are available.

You might consider doing some informational interviews with employers to see what they look for in terms of education and experience, as well as to get a feel for where each industry is headed in our current economic state. Instructors at your college may also be able to provide you with some worthwhile information that will help you made a decision.

Getting a job in today's tough job market is not just about whether you have a degree, diploma, or certificate. Learning to network and effectively market your skills and expertise plays a key role.

You can do both - do the one which is most useful to you first off, and the other when you have a burning desire to do it.

Or see if you can do both at the same time if you want to and have the time money and energy!
