Hi everyone, I started my new blog, Baby-Steps to Fluency a couple days ago. For now, it's hosted by Wordpress.com with a free theme. I'm hoping to host it somewhere else with a custom theme (perhaps with Thesis) by the end of January, when I can get some money in my pockets. However, please let me know what you think of it so far. How I can improve my writing style, suggestions, comments, etc... all is welcome! Thank you all very much! Fiona |

Just had a very quick look.. Its clear and simple. From your first posts you clearly identify what the purpose is of your blog. Are you intending to have general tools mentioned that could be used to learn any language? Or do you intend to specialise on the languages you have chosen? Are your tools going to be internet only or some in real life? A suggestion might be to organise meetup.com clubs to exchange in particular languages. Have you seen livemocha and other language learning sites? seems like a good resource for your purpose. Suggestions: Have clear achieveable goals that people can follow with you on your site: i.e. exams, talks or goals (i.e. learn 100 words, make 20 sentences, etc) ? Could you have podcasts or free lessons online for those who want to learn too? It looks good. I think having a blog about a task or purpose you set for yourself helps you to achieve your goal because it asserts your online presence and makes you more accountable for the things you want to do. I have recently stated at my toastmasters club that I want to become vegetarian: in front of 20+ people! so now I am accountable to them for my failure or success.. It makes me more concerned about carrying it out! take care and best of luck. merry christmas! martin |

Martin, Thank you for your comment. I'm planning on focusing on general tools, but use my stories and experiences to drive the points home. That way they can see how I used the tools I mention in my own language learning. Meetup.com sounds like a good idea, once I grow my community a little and get some regular readers I'll be sure to look into that. Public goals also sound like a good idea, I'll look into that and see how I can best incorporate that into my blog. Thanks!! |
