Could you move locations? To another city or town?

Maybe the town is too small for a bookstore.

I do like the idea of merging with another retailer. Coffee + books = winner

It would be such a shame to give up something that you really love.

Not only coffee! Tea, fresh fruit juices, sandwiches, home made soup of the day. I'd become a regular customer very quickly!!!

Maybe your landlord might be persuaded to invest in setting this up? The win for him is part of the profit, plus better chances to get (more) rent!

My head is spinning again.

I had a client who came in and we were talking about stuff: recession, struggling businesses, blah, blah...and she said this very boldly "there is NO HOPE for young people like you and your husband over here". And she is right. It was difficult BEFORE the recession and now it's next to impossible (sorry if this sounds very pessimistic).

She was telling me about young people who've gone back to their own countries (mostly UK) and how the people that moved here for their retirement are still here purely hoping the sterling will improve again against the euro.

She said GO TO CANADA. I guess I wouldn't mind that...

Then I went for lunch and a client rings me asking me for a book (isn't this great that clients know they can ring me anytime and I am pleased to talk to them anytime...I'll miss this)...anyway...she then tells me she's going to the UK because they've been living off "air" over here and can't do it anymore.

I, personally wouldn't like to go back to the UK. I think throughout "united" Europe everyone started to resent everybody and I wouldn't like to be in a country where I am constantly feeling I am "stealing" british people's jobs.

I donīt know where you are now, but remember that the grass is always greener on the other side...

At some point I want to open an English bookstore in Mexico, mainly selling what the ABC in Amsterdam sells (The American Book Center). Sience Fiction, Fantasy, Business books, personal development (of all types and sorts), Spiritual books, Magazines of all sorts not easily to find anywhere else etc.

I think I will add something like a coffeeshop as well, where they sell nice things such as home made brownies. I will also have a floor that people can rent for business meetings, club meetings etc (Toastmasters for example, bookclubs etc). Or maybe a private place in the bar where people can meet for the bookclub....

It will also have a floor that sells only secondhand books. You can hand-in 2 and get one, or just sell your second hand books... or buy secondhand books cheap.

Anyway... This is my idea. Maybe it will be of use to you as well somehow.

I LOVE your idea Now, that's exactly my vision! I couldn't do it like that from the start but hoped to get to that...

Cool...

When I get to it (in a few years time hopefully) I will contact you. If you are willing to move to Mexico we can work together
