Default Need help naming my new blog.

I looked at archive.org and saw that Steve didn't finalized "Personal Development for Smart People" until several months after he created his blog.

I would like some help coming up with a tagline for my blog from the get-go. I'll be putting the website URL into my signature just as soon as I finish uploading the home page and some other details.

The URL is my first and last name. The website is going to be sort-of personal development, but it's probably going to be from a much more spiritual-oriented perspective than Steve's blog is, since spirituality is the largest focus in my life.

Basically, the website is going to be about 1) Spirituality for the modern man, and 2) Practical, get-it-done and implement-now applications of personal development. I just need help naming it with a catchy tagline.

Any suggestions?

How about Practical Spirituality for the Modern Man?

However, you may want to say "for the modern person" to include everyone

Hmm.. not quite good enough. The website isn't just spirituality, but practical application (personal development) as well.

Of course, I can't just copy Steve's title - it's trademarked

Depends on what you want to do with it. If you're looking for people traffic to come from your main site onto your blog, name it whatever. If you want it to do well in the search engine rankings, name it whatever keyword you'd like people to search for. So if you wanted people to visit your blog for modern spirituality, you could name the blog modern spirituality. :P

I think actually it is a very good tag line. The practical part is from the "practical" spiritual advice etc.

Just like you said, spirituality is the main focus.

Steve does not just blog about personal development. He also talks about egg eaters are nazies, various recipies etc.
Still it is called personal developement.

Spiritual develpment is not possible without at least some personal developemnt.

In conclusion I think that you will not find 1 tagline that fits verything unless it is 3 lines long This one sounds very good to me.

I like it! Sums up what you are trying to portray and it lets the reader do some imagining as well. It will arouse curiosity for people who are interested in your topic

Is the blog aimed specifically at men, not women? That name sounds like it is.

How about you come up with your top three ideas (after spending some time thinking about it) and pitch to us here for a vote or a poll or something?

My tagline and my theme are constantly changing, but I don't worry too much about it. I'll eventually find something that I really like and stick with it. Worry about your tagline after you get some content. In the meantime, just go with the best you can think of.

Well, I am a man, and have no recollection of any past lives in which I may have been a woman , so most of my advice probably is for men more than women.

Besides, I have always hated the notion of political correctness. If women don't like it, they can get back in the kitchen!

i don't spend much time in the kitchen, except when i'm grabbing a beer

so, Curtis2011, i am wondering if you've really thought through this aspect of your position. is your particular brand of spirituality only practiced by men? in my experience, many many forms of spirituality aren't tied to any particular gender. are you saying 'be true to yourself', 'be honest with your partner', 'there is strength in vulnerability' (insert other PD idea with spiritual undertones here) - these are only for men to read and act on? i guess it's the fact that you say the content is spiritually-minded personal development that has me confused. how can that be a male-only or male-mostly topic?

also i want to be sure you know, if you say this and you decide it's true, you'll be chopping potential traffic in half. is that what you want?

p.s. in the suggested tagline, you are misusing the word "modern" - in the same way many reality tv design shows misuse it. "modern" is connected to a cultural movement that began around the year 1900 and ended around 1940. it's actually related to a deep despair and distress (triggered by folks like Darwin and Nietzsche) as the former worldview came crashing down with nothing yet there to replace it. so, technically, "modern" has already passed. "contemporary" is more accurate, but rather clumsy for a situation like this.
how about Spiritual Development in the 21st Century
or Spiritual Development Today
or Spiritual Development for Busy People (<-- also embodies the implications of a 'get it done' mentality - if you aren't busy, there's no reason to buckle down and get it done ya know? if you have plenty of time you can take your time)?
(any of these would also just make the potential effects of using "man" a moot point...)

I've been going through the exact same thing. JesseLovesYou.com » Not Yet a Pro Blogger

You're going to have to find your niche before you start going at this full-bore. If there is enough demand for it, I'll post up my guide on how to find your niche, less gloom and more value-driven content than the "Step 1: How to Find Your Voice" post.

My advice: Is there demand for what you want to write about?

There probably is some demand.

I have gone through several radical spiritual transformations in my life, only in the past 3.5 years, and mostly all by choice. Basically I have transformed myself and have a lot of knowledge and firsthand reality experience of what it is like to grow your spirit (or consciousness or whatever you want to call it).

I suppose if anyone is interested, I could help them quite a bit with spiritual growth.

And aside from that, like Steve I'll probably be blogging about a huge number of things. Whatever interests me, really. For instance, I know a buttload about search engine optimization, so I'll be making that into some free blog posts and probably a free downloadable ebook too.

I also plan to do some 30/60/90 day experiments of my own

What are the emotional triggers you are going to push to get people to buy your products?

If you're not okay with "selling", that is, taking money in exchange for the value you provide, you're never going to make it happen.

Spirituality for men might be a niche.
If you however want to make the decision to see it as your niche, it's about more than just choosing it as your title.

Hmm..

After getting on a role tonight and writing a 3000 word blog post (that is only 2/3 done!) about search engine optimization, I am thinking more along the lines of Spiritual Development for the Web Entrepreneur
