I enjoy almost everything in my life except one thing, school. I've hated it as long as i can remember and now that I'm in college and paying big bucks I'm wondering if its really worth it. I think the reason I don't like school is the fact that its the same thing over and over again. All you do is Learn this, then you test for it to see if you learned it. That's it. I feel like school is just testing to see how well you can learn. WELL DUH I CAN LEARN! I've been learning stuff since I was born. I've taught myself so much that it doesn't even compare to what school could have taught me. I'm going to school for networking and my goal is to be a network administrator for a large company or to start an IT consulting company for several small businesses or something along those lines. I feel as if school won't help me do either of those and if they do help me a little it won't even be that much compared to how much effort I put into it. I don't think I can quit school either because my parents really want me to go and they are paying for it and would be pretty disappointed about it. I know this looks like a rant and it kinda is because I'm just sitting here staring at all my school work I have to do asking my self "whats the point?" I kinda wish i could just train myself to love school. Anyone one have any advice on some ways I can learn to enjoy school? |

Become an entrepreneur, you are going to school to get a job to make money right? So find a way to make money without having to get a degree. Start your own business spare time and if you are successful you will be able to quit school soon. Starting your own business will also build your character and you will end up going far further than most people in life

| Blue Collar Independent Scholar « Unconventional Ideas Being a janitor is a liberating job: "Much to my surprise, I quickly discovered for myself the benefits of blue collar work. These include better health due to daily physical exertion, less stress, and most of all, freedom from mentally taxing work. "That last one was the clincher. I could spend most of the day thinking about the things I enjoyed like philosophy, the state of society, writing ideas, interesting books, etc. When I got home in the evenings, I might transfer my thoughts to paper. Though I might be physically tired at the end of the day, my brain would be very much alive. "Often ideas come to me while pushing and pulling the cleaning wand across the carpet. I bring a clipboard with paper to every job, and use it frequently to jot down phrases or ideas which pop into my mind. During the winter months my cleaning business slows down considerably. Those are my scholarship “boom” months. That’s when I can spend even more time researching, reading, and writing. Never before in white collar work did I enjoy such mental freedom." |

You can't really train yourself to love it, you've got to love it in the first place. Is being a network administrator something you're really passionate about? If not, it's the wrong job for you. The great thing about IT is that it has so areas you can go into. For example, I'm doing computer forensics. It's something I'm passionate about because it's something I enjoy and something that can make a big difference to the world. Computer security is another interesting one. And they're very easy subjects to get into if you already know about networking. Also, try and supplement education with other fun activities and hobbies to make sure it doesn't completely take over your life! I've found taking regular exercise is a great help to my studies since it's a fantastic stress reliever and boosts mental clarity. |

School is required. You have to do things at the time you have to do. I hated school when I was in the college, but I kept telling myself that I have to do this. If I quit today, I would never go back. It is only few years of your life. You can totally do that.

Everyday at college is torturing but I still endure it. Though I don't plan to enter 9-5. Actually, there is some interesting stuff being discussed from time to time and I enjoy that. However, the assignment and the exam completely negate the benefit off as they take freedom away. I think it is hard for you to go back and enjoy it like your peers since you already realized the whole point of school. You can't force yourself to finish (quality)assignment or being motivated enough to take the final final exam because the ultimate point of them and you doesn't match. My strategy is to trade off some grade with freedom. I refuse to do the assignment that I found it's stupid. My goal for each semester is not to let my grade fall under the probation line. I got D and C for most of the subject but what's in it in the end ? |
