I'm 70% through 'Do You' by Russell Simmons (hip hop mogul), it's surprisingly awesome

Links in closely with Eckhart Tolle as well (hes actually mentioned a few times in the book)

The Art of Learning by Josh Waitzkin

Someone else already recommended this book, but I would like to second the recommendation. Josh lives his life with such intensity that he has an incredible amount of wisdom to share for such a young guy. This book really struck a cord with me because I want to approach life and perpetual learning the way Josh does.

Now that I'm done with this book, I want to read more about performance psychology of athletes, philosophy and brain science (and chess).

Default Best Book of 2008 - A Must Read for Business People

I recently read a new book by Clifton Lambreth. The title was Ford and the American Dream - Founded on Right Decisions. This book takes doing the right thing at all cost to a new level. Everyone in American can learn from the new Ford book. Clifton Lambreth after 20 years with Ford decided to do the right thing by Writing a book about everything that went wrong at Ford while still working there and then sent first copy to CEO. Mr. Lambreth in Ford and the American Dream actually laid out a plan for recovery and I thin Ford seems to be listening. Hats off to Clifton Lambreth for having the courage to do the right thing!
Checkout the website
Ford and the American Dream: Founded On Right Decisions: Clifton Lambreth, Mary Calia, Melissa Webb

This guy is out giving speeches and saying
"Do the right thing at the right time with the right motivation and you will get the right results!"

Book: What Got You Here Won't Get You There: How Successful People Become Even More Successful

Author: Marshall Goldsmith

A great book to read if you don't like unsolicited advice or give too much of it yourself (section in book: adding too much value).

In particular, I love this book recommended method of talking to people (especially difficult people), which I adopted immediately with great results.

1) Ask a question 2) Wait for reply no matter how it is said or the content 3) Say Thank You.

A simple an effective way to get information and improve your ability to not get too absorbed when praised (leading to ungroundedness), to let criticism run off your back like water off a duck... AND I've found that I've become a better listener and say "thank you" much more often. Love it. Simply love it.

The one book that absolutely changed the way I think about Capitalism and Monopolies, is Titan: The Life of John D. Rockefeller Sr.

It was the most motivating book I have ever read for a few reasons:

1. Rockefeller came from humble means
2. Rockefeller was persistent
3. Rockefeller continuously failed his way to success
4. Rockefeller started several businesses before hitting home

Default My favorite books

I know all of these have already been posted, but I recommend these books:

Good to Great - Author: Jim Collins
This book goes in to detail about what made some of the biggest companies become the biggest and best companies in the world. There are many principles any of us can apply to our businesses, and even our personal lives.

The Four Hour Work Week - Author: Timothy Ferriss
This guy wrote this book, his first book ever, and became a New York Times bestseller. That alone deserves a second look. This book basically challenges the stereotypical view of work and business. Why do you do it, what is your goal, and is there a better way? Very interesting, and even if you think the guy is crazy, there are points in this book that can work for you.

Think and Grow Rich - Author: Napolean Hill
It's a classic. If you never read it, and want to be rich, go read it. Enough said.

That's it for now!

If you're going to grow your business beyond just yourself, you have to learn to lead people. The best book I've read on leadership (so far) is:
"The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership: Follow Them and People Will Follow You" by John C. Maxwell.

It's a great read with lots of hands-on exercises and practical advice for building your personal leadership skills.

Also check out:
"Ready, Fire, Aim: Zero to $100 Million in No Time Flat" by Michael Masterson.

Chapter Four, "The Supremacy of Selling", is a compelling, eye-opening, and (for me at least), paradigm-shifting essay on why you should focus less on building and perfecting your products and services, and instead spend WAY more time letting others know about them. Get the book for that chapter alone.

There is a much more complete list of recommendations on my site at RoadmapsToSUCCESS.com - Entrepreneurship Books.

Regards,
Dan
