Thumbs up The Most Profitable Adsense Ad Unit

The first Adsense unit on a page displays the top paying ads. So if you want to maximize Adsense earnings, make sure your "money maker" ad block appears before any other Adsense block on the page.

This is well known but there are some people who just recently found this out (like me).

and don't forget to always:
- Put as many adblocks as legally allowed.
- Blend your ads with the content; and when using a square block, blend starting from the left side.
- Use the same or similar font between your ads and HTML text.
and.....a powerful technique to dramatically increase CTRs: put small images beside the ads.

That was speculation for a good while and it made sense. It was good of them to come out in the open and say that. Also blending the ads with the content has made a real difference in my Adsense and YPN income. You did a good job doing that on your site by the way.

@zpivat: Thanks for the tips!

@Larry: How much of a difference did it make. Can YPN and Adsense coexist on the same page?

Default Choose the type carefully

One thing I have learned from various people is the type of add. If you read some of John Chow's posts, his 300x300 add is his best money maker by far.

Biggest difference for me was adding a Link Unit to the tops of my pages. The one at the top of JAMMAForever is earning more revenue than all the other ads on the website combined.

I have to try that. I've always only used the regular content blocks. Thanks

That wouldn't happen to be running IM Portal would it?

What do you call "first" then? First in the HTML code?
