| Hi Rachel21, It would help if we had a bit more information, eg what country you are in & where you are planning to set up. Are you planning to operate from a shop in a street with an independent landlord or in a mall situation which is managed by a company? At the very least you will need public liability & contents insurance. The big cost is in the public liability insurance. You will need to find out the what the legislation is for your country. For example, here in Australia the minimum requirement for public liability is now $20,000,000. A few years ago we had a shop in a shopping centre - although the public liability insurance required by law at that time was $10,000,000 we were required to take out $20,000,000 by centre management under the conditions of the lease operating in a centre. I think one of the best ways is to try & get referrals from someone you know who has used an insurance company or broker that they can recommend. Sharyn

| You want an agent in your area, who represents many companies. The thing you are paying for is the agent and his expertise and your relationship with him. The policies are largely interchangeable. Talk to business owners you know and ask for referrals.

| Hi Rachel, If you are in the U.S. your liability insurance can be for FAR less than $10 or $20 million. (Must have some very overactive injury lawyers down under :-). I travel a lot and independent computer cafes have a hard time these days. Competitors like Panera Bread and the Atlanta Bread Company are everywhere and offer free wifi, unlimited coffee refills and large breakfast and lunch menus. Be sure to do a Business Plan before investing your money and hard work. Best of luck, Brooks |

| You will definitely want to speak with an insurance agent/broker that is independent - meaning that they can "shop" your case around and find you offers from multiple insurance companies. |
