I'm thinking place with lots of sunshine and surrounded by moderate forests or mountains with clean air.

I believe where ever the person would enjoy waking up each day no matter what.

| I did a search of America. The places with the nicest weather have the highest crime rates. The places with the most terrible weather have the lowest crime rates. So it depends on your tastes.

The best place is where you feel at home. If you don't know, you need to start trying stuff out. In this case, travel. see the world. From my perspective, the US is not where I'd look for the best place to live, so there you see -- you can only ask yourself what you want from your environment. the answer is there for the uncovering. look for clues all around you, you'll figure it out. |

Austin is nice.

I watched a show that said New Zealand and Sweden were the best places to live primarily to do with the political welfare sort of system they have over there, with much longer vacation paid days then anywheres else in the world. Generally North America is a great place to live.

I can highly recommend Raleigh, NC but the best place to live is where you are, right now. Because now is the only thing you have any control over so, make it the best it can be no matter where that may be, geographically. Jennifer |

For me it would be somewhere warm with lots to do nearby

i knew at age 12 that i wanted to live in new york city. i moved here when i was 17, have been here for four years, and am never leaving. this is it for me. the only other place i could even fathom living in is london. both cities have so much creative energy, diversity, culture, and good food. it's all about the global city! (don't get me wrong: i fantasize about tropical coasts all the time! if only new york was in miami...) |

I would say that Northern California is the best place to live... some of the best weather in the world... close to the ocean... large city San Francisco (beautiful)... snow two hours north with some of the best ski resorts in the world... wine country... beautifully scenery all the way around. I have been in most of the places in the united states and Northern California is by far the best... and you do pay for it.

I like New Zealand - good weather, friendly people, beautiful scenery, clean air. I liked the east coast of Australia too when I was visiting...somewhere like Sydney or Brisbane where the temperature doesn't drop too low in the winter would be nice.

| I go with that. Constant sunshine is not a requirement. I like all sorts of weather as long it's not extreme. I like rain and snow too.

| I sort of disagree, from an ethical/environmental perspective. Sunshine is great, but 100% sunshine = living in the desert, which requires inefficiently importing a lot of water from other regions (particularly if you decide to plant and water a tropical garden around a large swimming pool). Living in the rural areas in general tends to require a much larger carbon footprint and a less efficient use of resources because of the low density and corresponding lack of multi-family housing, mass transit, and walkability. Also on a psychological level it seems antisocial/fearful to put a premium on living a bit farther from the nearest neighbor. I feel I've grown as a person by living in a higher density very diverse area where I interact with a wide variety of people in a given week. I've also become more patient by waiting for the bus each day instead of driving myself to work.

Austin, Texas is a great city....it's warm...and hilly...it was also voted the friendliest city in the US. Atlanta, Ga (where I live) is also very nice...but it gets a little cold in the winter (lows in the 20-40's)....

I agree with the 100% sun = desert = more environmental damage/costs. Hope that will change in the future with sun/wind energy etc. I also don't want sun al the time, i do less and it is also boring. Here in Northern Europe the changin of the weather is something great to watch. I like lots of places where there is culture and nature. But i would not prefer to live in places with very high crime. How nice some countries can be, my Home has to be as safe as possible. I like places with water and also mountains. I also like it if there is a vegetarian movenment. One day i would like to go by eco-powered RV Last edited by tsjechov; 06-28-2009 at 08:46 AM. |

My criteria for picking a place to live include:
Tokyo was a perfect match. I'm hoping South Korea will be equally good. California would be great if only the US developed their public transportation! |

I love my life almost everything about life here in Canada except the cold winters. I hope to move south in the winter months to either Sedona, Arizona or Palm Springs, California. Those are my two fav cities so far in the US.

It makes me smile to see so many people here dreaming of living in New Zealand, seeing it as quite idyllic. I do live in New Zealand and to be honest, it IS awesome! It's a beautiful country, peaceful and quite safe, great food and culture, relatively good cost of living, moderate climate and good public health and education system. I think there are more opportunities for smart and hard-working people to get ahead here than in many places. If you went by the letters section of the daily papers though, you would think it was a crime-filled, polluted, traffic-clogged, politically incompetent backwater, full of morose, violent and cultureless individuals who would all move to Australia if they weren't so poor thanks to the state stealing all their money with low wages and high taxes. One person's paradise is another's hell, I guess!! |

I think it's important to live in a place that makes you feel comfortable. People are key, living around your family and friends can make your life much happier and more eventful. Although, some could easily move to the city or place they desire and then build their network of friends and/or convince family to move with them.
