Default Time to Cut the Cubicle Umbilical Cord

Hey guys, I've been working on this manifesto called "The Liberation Revolution - It's Time to Cut the Cubicle Umbilical Cord"

If you're interested in breaking away from the 9-5 and working for yourself, I wrote this with you in mind.

If you're not interested in working for yourself, you might not like it.

What’s under the hood:
  • Why we’re tired of choking back vomit because we’re going another day doing a job we hate, with people we don’t connect with, working for someone we don’t respect.
  • How we’re transforming our relationship with work, through breaking down social conventions and overly politicized nonsense.
  • Why we think entrepreneurship is one of the highest forms of self-actualization and self-improvement.
  • How we’re in this together.
  • How to cultivate the “Free-man” (or free-woman) mindset and seven things you can do right now.
  • The importance of getting to Game Over.

Go here to check out the manifesto (it's free)

I would love to hear your thoughts!

So I just read your 26 page manifesto and it was awesome! But then I went to the Project Mojave page and it said "Project Mojave Is Off the Market". What exactly is Project Mojave?

I know it's off the topic but you have such a good alexa rank! Wow I assume it is because of the different angle you chose to write about personal development.

Jonathan is a frequent guest writer on Zenhabits.net. This is probably one of the main reasons his Alexa rank is so high.

Alexa Ranks:
illuminatedmind.net: 75,283
zenhabits.net: 13,930
stevepavlina: 12,660

All very good ranks!

I use the Alexa rank as a guideline and not a hard rule. One site I had received 2,000-3,000 unique visitors a day, but had a worse Alexa traffic rank than another site which received about 1,000 unique visitors a day.

In reply to OP, as long as you're happy with what you do, to me it doesn't matter if you're in a cubicle, office, at home, or at a beach. Likewise, if you don't like what you do, then it doesn't matter where you're doing it either!

It's a thing where they coach you on how to build a "freedom business." SP forum member Rocksupreme answered a few questions for me on it, cause he had it in his signature. From what I understand, it's all about doing the market research to ensure a viable internet business model, and then taking you through process to make sure you're successful.

They had a launch about a week ago where you can sign up -- I forgot the price. I didn't get in on it this time, but maybe next.

Very good read. Along with a zillion others, I was laid off this year, in my case from a graphic design job I had of seven years.

I started out loving the job, had a true passion for the work, it allowed me to be as creative as I wanted. Very little supervision, so it was basically play-time for me, and the result was some kick ass work that made the publication better, which led to increased advertising revenue, which lead to the company becoming bigger than it could handle, which lead to lots of micromanaging, fear, and politics, which lead to me wanting to jump off a bridge.

Anyway I've been on detox the last few months. Knowing the key for me, is to be an independent man.... after all, that's what I talked about while still having my soul crushed at the job. Reading this took me back a few months and my blood started boiling. So glad to be out of that atmosphere.

But, I wondered why I haven't taken much action. I think it clicked when I read this section: Defrost your passion.

All the office politics and back-stabbing, killed my love for design... and I learned that even if I made excellent work, it didn't matter in the end. I would get no credit, or someone would get jealous and mess with my work, you name it. I learned that what I did, didn't MATTER.

So now, as I have my whole life ahead of me, I'm afraid I've kept some of that same conditioning, that what I do, won't matter, so why try. But it's all false.

I also had no problem getting to Game Over at the job. I took pride in turning projects in early, gleaming with perfection. But now, with no deadlines, I feel no pressure, and yeah it is sort of turning into spinning my wheels. My productivity has gone way down without that deadline.

Anyhow--very interesting reading. I think it may have helped me clear away a few of those mental blocks.
