Morning everyone, I'm currently looking for something/somewhere to direct my pent up enthusium and in the course of looking into various fields I got thinking on something I find quite interesting, I know what works for one won't work for everyone but I think it is an interesting question so... With the rapidly changing world we find ourselves in I'm interested to know what others think about careers for the next say 30-40 years?, there will clearly be an extremely wide range of people from all walks of life and professions on these boards so I thought it would be interesting to see knowing what you know now what career would you be going for if you were just about to leave school for example. The reccession has clearly shown no one can really be sure what the future holds but i'm sure people have some ideas of what they would be doing if they could "do it all again". |

I would have finished my degree in Computer Science. It's a risky prospect in general, but if you land a solid job, it's quite stable work. although, in order for me to say that, I've had to go through exactly what I needed to get to the point where I have the wisdom to know what to do, but it took 10 years. That's the catch isn't it. In order to know, you need to live through it, but in living through it, you pass it by. Perhaps the real truth is that there really isn't a future. |

But if you really do want to base your decision on availability or trendiness, I agree with the previous posters about looking into some sort of IT-career, or perhaps even bio-tech or some other type of science. Things like genetic engineering and nanotechnology will probably grow in importance over time. A good outcome would probably be that your career is both interesting to you and strategically smart. It's not entirely relevant to this thread, but I was reminded of it, and that post really has started to affect the way I view my life. | |

If you want job security, there are many options. Become a judge, a doctor, a dentist, an accountant. Will that make you happy? I guess only if that's your passion. If I'd do it all again, I'd find out what my real passion is much earlier and then do it! |

I think it needs a bit of introspection. Lets take my case. I have a job but then in few years I want to go on my own. This maybe 10 years and things might change but then I am dong what seems to be best today. To work on that goal I have started working today. I have family to support and my job helps me do that. the day my dream would have capability to do both I would willingly change everything around me.
