Default Self Help FIELDS

Everything I wish to do is not a job I can find.

What are some jobs in the personal development field, metaphysics, spiritual, healing, areas that a person can look for, as in appyling for a position.

Most of these types of jobs seem to require working for yourself (ie. coaching, reiki, author, speaker, blogs, etc..)

Are there specific jobs a person can look to obtain while creating these other things in their life?

The only things I could come up with is either to manage or be an assistant to someone owning a company that is aligned with these things.

So for a moment there I thought the title of this thread was "personal development FLUIDS", heh.

Now that could have been an interesting read! (I could make numerous dodgy, adult-rated references here, but I'll refrain. )

More on topic, I've had the exact same issue. I.e. I have a very good idea of what I want to be doing, but it either required money to start it, further exploration before I could settle on something definitevely, or just resources (whether it be cash, or personal skill) that allow me to express what I want to express in a way that is empowering and energising to me, thus enableling me to do really good work that people would pay me for.

Then I met a girl who I can't seem to--and don't want to!--stay away from and my whole notion of reality changed. Or, at least, the way I looked at things.

Basically, for so long I was focused on the "ideal" way of doing things, but it just didn't bring me the results I wanted. It was effectively a form of procrastination, and risk and fear avoidance.

I became very aware, through the contrast of my experience, of what was important to me. More specifically, I learned what I was willing to give up and to do now in order to be with those I care about, and to do the things that matter to me. And, at least for me, they were basically part of the same package, and I think I undertstand why now: because they all lie on the path with a heart.

Trying to bundle them together into one package proved troublesome for me, since when there are other people involved, it's important to take what they want into consideration to. Nonetheless, I found it greatly helpful to have all of these experiences because they created a large amount of clarity about what I really want.

So basically, what I'm saying is that the solution, in my case, was completely different to what I was looking for. As Steve has said before, sometimes when you're stuck in one life area, you don't take into account the ripple effect of making changes or progress in another life area. Basically, the real lesson--for me, at least--was that life isn't a separate set of areas. You can look at it like that, but regardless of what area you focus on, everything in your life will affect everything else.

I needed to accept that, and take responsibility for it and my life, but I also had to be honest about my true desires, even if they involved others and if I wasn't sure I could have them.

So my advice is to acknowledge that the solution to this might not be immediate, obvious, or even related to what you expect it might be. At the same time, admit your true desires to youself, and acknowledge that, at the moment, you might not know what they are, or at least, had enough contrasting experiences that allow you to consciously see and understand what you've intuitively felt for a while.

To paraphrase a friend of mine, you're young enough to take risks and recover if you end up being surprised by the outcome. Live a little crazy. At first it seems pretty stressful and can be quite the emotionally taxing experience, but then you realise that it's not so much the experience that makes you feel this way, but where you are in your personal development. Life, experiences, and people are a mirror: they show you where you can grow.

For me, the best, albeit most challenging way to grow is to lunge head-first into life.

The good news is that you're really always as young as you feel, so if what my friend says is right, you'll always be able to recover, no matter what surprises you have. But also remember that sometimes surprises are amazing, life-changing, life-enhancing ones that leave you a changed person, or rather, help you to get rid of what wasn't really "you" in the first place.

I bet you'll find what I've written to be infuriatingly non-actionable, heh. Have patience, and trust. For three years I didn't really earn much cash and all, and am still pretty broke, but what I did during that time ended up being an essential part of my experience now. If I didn't do those things, I doubt I'd be having the experiences I'm having now (although I could be), so don't be so quick to judge what is and isn't helpful. You can never lose your way; life hands you exactly what you need.

Postscript

If it's some guidance you're looking for, I highly recommend astrology from Yasmin Boland:

Daily Libra Horoscope - Yahoo!7 Horoscopes

I once thought astrology was bunk, but yep... I'm converted. I encourage you to see if it's helpful to you (I mainly use it to gain some clarity and understanding about experiences and feelings).

How expensive is it to run your own business? How easy is it to be in the field of self-employment?
Is it possible for young people to be self-employed?

You can be a trainer in various areas like motivation, group communication, team work, etc; a life coach, a pick up instructor, an author on a subject (or all subjects), a blogger, a public speaker, a career counselor, a psychotherapist etc...

If you have knowledge to share and want to make money from it, blogging/ web authoring is my preferred route.

My passion is lucid dreaming but I'm pretty sure there are no jobs going in that field, short of me walking into The Lucidity Institute and offering myself as a test subject! (even then, I think they've got it covered...)

So I started a website teaching others how to lucid dream for free. See my signature for more info. You can do this with your passion and earn a living from it too.
