Not a bad idea as a hobby, but it will hardly make you a millionaire, the thing is there are literally thousands of people selling gems on the Internet, so your margins would be next to nothing just to compete with the market, and unless you have access to gems straight from the cutting and polishing you will pay a fashion premium which will reduce your profit even further.

The truth be told most on-line gem dealers have tie-ups with large stone companies who also sell there product via the Internet, if you have cash to invest give it a go but start of small, Tanzanite is quite easy to shift because of its ever growing value and great demand, avoid emeralds and rubies because there not in great demand and you will be stuck with them. Diamonds are even trickier because of the 'blood diamond's' or 'conflict stones' most consumers are aware of this and would prefer to go to a trusted source, secondly most on-line diamond dealers have access to wholesalers, greatly reducing there costs and making there prices hard to compete with.

The reason I say is 'its not a get rich quick scheme' is because I am in the jewellery trade and know it well, you have to build a reputation first and that's quite tricky with an Internet company........ But I'm not saying it's impossible...... Good luck

today i have posted my first gem stone for sale on ebay i hope for the best and lets see how it goes through the auction.

Unless i dont take risks i wont see any thing happening new so thats why i thought i should take a risk and list a product on ebay even though if it does not sells i will gain some good experience in selling things on ebay.

I have seen some people selling things successfully on ebay and i happy about them
