Is www.birdseeksbee.com a good name for a dating website?

Thanks for the advice! I'm not going into a niche with the site, it is meant to work for everybody. I would like to build the best and biggest of all dating sites. Only this way I can provide the most value I think. Thanks for the advices and compliments about the name's cuteness and all. It gives me a really good feeling about it! |

The easiest to use, with the most advanced features... The most viral, while using the most mainstream promotional techniques... In other words, "best and biggest" is not a strategy. Either you target a niche intentionally, or someone else (customers or competitors) will choose it for you.

While I'm at the moment looking for an domain name for a website myself I understand how hard it is to find good names. Yours sounds nice. Quote:
Archieving critical mass in a niche is much easier because you have to reach fewer people. Additionally what kind of site are you doing? Matchmaking or traditional dating?

Thanks for the feedback everybody! I think in order to succeed, I will do good not to focus on a niche, at least not intentionally. If one is thinking in niches it is indeed not possible to please everybody, on the other hand if you think about what people share and have in common with each other, it makes more sense to just target everybody. Brutha: Matchmaking vs traditional dating. I will do a bit of both. Actually, I will let the users decide. You are totally right btw about achieving a critical mass. That is going to be the hardest and the most painful part, but also the most beautiful and most fulfilling. MartialDev: Yes it must be! And I really hope I can achieve that! Many thanks for the feedback! I'm really grateful! |

Though it's clever, I don't really like the name, but I'm probably in the minority. People like to have excuses for being on dating sites, like, "I just happened to be browsing plentyoffish to see if there were any potential friends..." But when they type in "birdseeksbee" in their browser, there is no denying that they're on the hunt for a mate. I suggest that you give folks a little plausable deniability. And it's a little cheesey (but cute and cheeky at the same time). Your goal is bold and ambitious, and you'll probably get a lot of naysayers, though if it's a inspiring vision then I hope you stick with it. I think if something could bridge the gap between social networking and dating sites, it would be successful. I believe that a Facebook app will probably be the next dating phenomenon, as opposed to a dedicated dating site. I don't see the "traditional" dating sites like Match sticking around for much longer. |
