Default Getting a US bank account for non-US residents...

Hey guys I am very eager to become an affiliate through the Amazon Associates program. But the problem is I am living in Malaysia and the only way Amazon can deliver me the payment is by cheque.

I have heard accounts by other affiliates from Malaysia saying that their cheques take several weeks to arrive, and take several weeks more to be processed, even that's when they are lucky enough the mostly clueless bank people managed to figure how to deal with foreign cheques.

I have heard that one solution to get around this mess is to have a US bank account. The Amazon Associates payment would be directly deposited to the account and I can then proceed to withdraw the money manually from ATMs (I think).

Does anyone know how can I get a US bank account without having to fly there? Asking for help in the local branch of Citibank or Bank of America seemed to be futile. Those morons don't even know what the hell is Paypal.

You cannot do it. Not post 9/11. Even though non-residents can open accounts in US, you must be personally present and show your passport and visa. The only way around it is to open a joint company with someone in US. That way your name will be on registration papers and they can issue check card in your name. There are a bunch of companies that offer services like that. Let me know if you may be interested.
