Default SEO Is Driving Me Bat**** Insane.

I have no idea why. I'm on SBI and the whole notion of keywords and SEO seems reasonable enough, but now that I want to apply it to articles that I want to write on the side for money, my mind suddenly can't grasp the concept and I feel overwhelmed and confused. I've checked quite a few tutorials but for some reason I just can't get a sensible hold on it. To put it bluntly, this is extremely irritating and not helping me feel better. Anyone got any tips or resources I can use to learn this stuff nice and slow without my brain threatening to EXPLODE?

Dude, keep going! Confusion is so much closer to clarity than ignorance or unawareness is. Feeling overwhelmed is only natural when you learn something like that. I recall similar experiences when I dipped into some Polish laws and regulations or HTML. If you just push through, you'll get clear.

Confusion isn't the lack of information. It's the excess of it. Organize it somehow by writing down all that you know and all you don't know.

Just ignore the feeling and keep learning, clarity will follow

Cheers
Ralph

Oh, I don't intend to give up. I want to make this work. And yeah, I agree that it's better to have too much info than no info at all.

I'll try your little tip. Hopefully that will get some clarity.

It's important to also distinguish between on-page SEO and off-page SEO.

Off-Page SEO is all about the websites linking to your site.

On-page SEO is all about what you do to make your site more search engine friendly.

Of all the things you can do for on-page SEO, here's a few key tips:

1) Make sure you use your keywords in your text... frequently, but naturally. If a human reads your site and thinks, "he sure says XYZ word a lot" then you're over-doing it.

2) Use your H1 H2 H3 tags and make sure keywords are in them.

3) For your page TITLE, make sure it includes your keywords.

4) Whenever you link to another page on your site, make sure you use the TITLE tag (and if not obvious by now, use keywords in it)

5) If there are pages on your site which do not provide content value to the reader, then make sure when you like to them you add REL=NOFOLLOW. Pages usually good to do this with are Contact, About Me, Tell-A-Friend, Donate, etc.

Those are some of the big on-page SEO tips. There's more... but that list above will give you a good start.
