Default Paying for College

My living situation is tenuous at best. Therefore I want to get into college to aid in my development of competencies, and self confidence. My credit is shot right now, probably under 500. I made too much money in 2007, so when I filled out FAFSA for 2009 they were expecting family contributions. However, I made next to nothing in 2008. Also, I was applying in Las Vegas, where I'm no longer living. I can't say I won't return, but I think I have been placing too much identity on where I'm leaving instead of where I'm heading. That said, I'm open to student loans, backed by the government, as I believe with more skills, I'll be a powerhouse of value. Not to mention, my entrepreneur spirit is slowly growing. I'm more of an inventor by heart anyway.

I would however like to leverage a lot together if I can. Since I'll be paying rent almost no matter where I go, why not own and pay down a house while I'm at it? That way, I'm getting more bang for my buck. I think there is a way to work this out, however it might take a lot of selling ability.

I'm looking for any information to achieve this end.

there is another thought process in my mind that perhaps I just want the skills and the degree isn't as important. I know I have the ability to learn fast, and school often was boring or frustrating. I like the concept of total immersion while learning.
