Default Earning money through freenalnce website development?

I used to be quite good at programming though I've never seriously worked with websites before.

Do you think it's realistic to earn income through developing websites with all the competition I'd face?

Sure is! I do quite well, although I would say steer clear of freelance sites unless you feel compelled to use them. With virtually no selling skills you can make a KILLING in the offline market just by talking to business owners in your area.

I can give you some good info on this if you'd like. PM me for it.

I am not succeeding at it. I was a web developer at a couple of major corporations. But I'm not all that terribly great at the design side. So I'm struggling with it. It's sad because I've seen some of the awful coding some of these designers have done. Even sometimes their designs are awful. But people respond to eye-candy more than they do to things that work.

Team up with a designer!

Seriously.

Good design is about more than 'eye candy' though, it's about the flow of information.

It's possible to make a alright living freelancing, but if I could start over I'd skip that and just build products for myself -- websites and applications that have actual revenue. When you have a decent portfolio going, you'll be making a lot more than you could freelancing.
