Hello everyone, I was recently contacted for an offer to include an ad on my website. Offer was for one year to keep a link up. I am not sure how much to charge. I was thinking for a full year $200. That equals out to about 16 dollars per month. Now my blog is reletively new, so should I go for full year? 6 months? or less and if the price for full year sounds reasonable. If you have any advice. Thnx. |

You might consider going month by month. Think of it like virtual real estate. You're just offering your web space on a monthly basis. You might even consider waiting until you have more traffic to offer to your advertisers, possibly 1000-2000 uniques per month. That way as your traffic grows you can negotiate more for the ads and at the same time provide more value to advertisers. |

Alex, I agree with Smartile, I would go on a month to month basis at first. The price is really dependent on a few factors, how many unique visitors do you have per month? Where is the ad going to be place? Is it going to be only on the main page, or on every page? What size is the ad going to be? I would create a few different packages considering different sizes and locations. Remember your selling real estate, it's just like a building or house, size and location affect price. IMO, $16/ mo is way too cheap! How much is your time and effort worth? Remember your getting paid for writing, editing and upkeep your blog. I would break it down to, how many hours week I spend working on the blog, and how much I'm worth per hour. |

What's your current monthly page views and unique users? Although you'll be charging a flat rate for a fixed period of time, you should still consider what the effective CPM rate will be. For example, ad sense has eCPM around $1 for some blogs. Social network sites probably have eCPM less than $1, while premium publishers such as NY Times will command $20, $30, $40 or even $50 eCPM. Your site would fall somewhere in between. One way is to do a quick projection of your total page views and unique users for the next few months. Estimate a CPM rate based on comparable site. And then figure out your flat rate. GeekMBA360 GeekMBA360 — Beat Recession: hard-hitting career and personal finance advice |
