| Just curious actually. Jess didn't originally strike me as the darkworker type, so my initial reaction was that generating income from promoting health-destroying products (which commercial candies are known to be, even in mainstream nutrition circles), seemed out of character for her. I could be wrong, but I thought she had stronger lightworker leanings, so this didn't seem like a good fit for her. A darkworker-leaning person would have no qualms about selling candy, cigarettes, etc. -- anything to make a buck, regardless of the damage it causes others. I just didn't think Jess had that kind of mentality. So this announcement came as a bit of a surprise to me. |

Hi, Jess. How does this work? Do you own the machines, or what's the deal? Who restocks them? Where are they? How much candy do you have to sell to break even? Is this just a trial run to see if they make profit, or what? |

This reminds me of a somewhat different but related situation. I remember last year being very surprised that fellow coworkers who were part of the local YMCA were selling candy (and making a big show of it) at my company as a way to raise funds for some athletic programs (I think oriented toward kids). I raised the irony/hypocrisy of the situation to two coworkers not involved with this and they completely failed to see why it was a problem and they were even bothered by my mentioning it.

A small bit of chocolate now and then isn't going to cause problems for most people. I would think that it only becomes harmful/dishonest on the part of the seller when they try to push copious amounts of it onto people or they give inaccurate nutritional information. It can be argued that it's up to people to make up their own minds about this stuff. Offering what they demand without deceitful advertising could actually be seen as a way to honor their free will. That's more of a neutral stance on it, and most people are fairly neutral so that's the way they'll see it. Me, I like candy bars. They aren't something I'd choose to eat every single day of my life, but I don't resent the companies that would sell them to me. I resent companies that aren't honest with me. That's one of the reasons I generally won't buy them even when I could go for one. However, I'm very glad to have that choice, even if one decision could be far more harmful than the other. If nothing else it gives me inspiration to create better choices for myself. |

They're peanut M&M's.... I know they have yellow#5 and everything...but most people like them, unless you're allergic to peanuts or chocolate. Actually...isn't chocolate good for you in some ways? And peanuts for protein...so it benefits without too bad of things. Doesn't it? Quote:

I actually made $29.77 in two weeks time. That was enough to wash the Mount Everest pile of Laundry that was taking up most of the kitchen Floor! I have it set to maximum vend which only vends 7 per quarter, so it limits peoples sugar intake, which is a plus. |

Who are you to tell someone else what they should consume? That's one of those funny thing about the free market, people are allowed to consume what they want. No one is forcing them to. If they didn't want her product she would fail because of lack of demand. But I guess in your ideal world everyone eats salads eh? Maybe we should only allow those type of vending machines since it makes you a 'light worker'.

But for adults, if you're at home sure. Whatever you want to imbibe as long as you're not going driving or causing problems. If you do go out under the influence of drugs, I do feel the charge should be compounded due to your choice. Edit - and to stay on subject of this thread. You can have candy machines. That's why kids have Parents. If your parent doesn't think you should have it. Oh no, they might have to tell you no you're not allowed.

Easy solution to everyones concerns here: Set up a vending machine next to the m&m ones that vend slingshots. Peanut m&m's make fantastic slingshot bullets, and shooting said bullets at people is a sure fire way to a engage in a social learning experience. More m&m will be sold. Less m&m will be eaten. More personal development will take place! |

Have you ever heard of rehab for candy addiction? Candy isn't actually addictive; it just fulfills the natural hunger for sugar in fruits without providing the nutrition. Drugs are really addictive. That's why candy is legal, and drugs are not. Good luck with your vegan police state though |
