I would like to create a mailing list. I saw this phplist - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and downloaded it but don't know how to set it up (opening the file opens a bunch of other files and opening those files opens another bunch).

If you're building a serious business, then you need to get a professional autoresponder like Aweber, GetResponse, or 1shoppingcart. Most people I coach prefer Aweber. I used to use a homemade mailing list (like phplist) but realized that if I wanted to make money, I had to ditch the free list and buy a real solution. People are quick to pay monthly fees for web-hosting, yet they skimp on trying to pay as little as possible for list-hosting. Depending on the business, list-hosting can actually be even more important to a business than web-hosting. |

I agree with Chris. If you want to create a real money-making machine and profit from your business, use tools to help you do that. And because you're creating a money-making machine you might consider putting in some money to get the right tools for the job. I personally use 1shoppingcart.com which is an excellent service. One of my favorite features is their technical phone support.

Even though I usually recommend Aweber, right now I use GetResponse because their GetLeads co-registration service can import leads directly into my autoresponder. It costs me $0.32/lead - but the quality of leads is highly targeted.

I started several Yahoo groups (not for profit but to educate & share ideas on certain topics). It's free and VERY easy to use. It also has a nice "invite" function that makes it easy for you to ask everyone you meet online to join one of your lists.

You can buy hosting from a company that has the package called Fantastico. This Fantastico has a collection of dozens of php tools that you can install with a single click on the server, among them being PhpList. You can see on their website a list of hosting companies. www.netenberg.com/fantastico.php |
