I read everywhere that when you blog, it's of utter importance to post regularly. I'm totally not a regular kind of person. Sometimes I have many many ideas for posts and could write two a day... and at other times I'm too busy with other stuff to think of my blog. I've been trying to be regular, which has only led me not to post much, because of holding back when I was inspired and refusing to force myself when I wasn't. I know I could write when I'm inspired and let wordpress publish the posts later - but it wouldn't be real time. The readers would be out of sync with what really happens in my life. Is that a problem? Do you think it's really that important to post regularly? |

hi, for meblogging is all about regular information that keeps you up to date with the blogger but if you state on your blog that you post at certain times, like every week, then the reader slots into your time frame, it is when they do not know that they get confused and then switch off, dave |

Most definitely. I didn't visit this website as often when Steve slowed down with his posts, and now that they're every few days again, I feel more inclined to check in and see if there's anything new more often. Perhaps make a schedule, so that visitors can expect new content on particular days - or if you're feeling very inspired one day and write three posts, then spread them out over a few days to build a feeling of consistency. |

I think it depends whether your reading read your blog via rss or via visiting your page directly. I read blogs via RSS and subscribe to blogs that have one post every few months. I only unsubscribe from blogs when I don't like the content that I'm getting or find it not worth my time to read the it. On the other hand there people who navigate directly to the page and don't check regulary if the don't get content. Those people won't check anymore if they to often go to the page to find nothing new because you don't write regulary enough. |

For me, it is one of the three Cs for blogs success; Content, Consistency and Contribution. Your content must provide value. You must post regularly. You must contribute (participate in forums and discussions for making your presence known). You can write a couple of posts in yout "up phase" and schedule posting evenly over a number of days. OR if you are not concerned with readership, then post as and when you feel like

ok, ok... I believe you all I'm going to write my posts when I feel inspired to do so, but I'll do it ahead and tell wordpress to publish them always on mondays and thursdays. As a result the readers won't know what bothers me right now. On the other hand, given the content I want to write about, it doesn't matter. Till now I've been writing mostly about my raw diet because it was such a big thing for me. But now I'm almost done with it. I'm planning on writing about health matters, overcoming addictions, escaping depression, dealing with emotions, improving communication, energy work... I'd like to share all the knowledge I've gathered in the last ten years. It's true that if I write about how to quit smoking or what to do against heartburn, it's not relevant what bothers me the day I post it. So, ok, ok, I'll keep a schedule. Quote:

No. No. No no no. A year ago I read a very magnificent blog for a few months, starting from Spring. I think in mid to late Summer she created a schedule for herself. Like, this topic this day, another topic another day. Now she doesn't blog any more. But what about twitter? You could just blurt out something that was on your mind at some time of the day, people who'd follow you would see what bothers you and what you're thinking about, and just generally what's up. You could also announce then there, when you have posted something new on your blog, that way the readers/followers would be up to date. |

I think that if you are someone who has a lot to say and then a dry spell it would be good to do the writing and then post them later rather than all at once. I think the best blogs focus on a specific topic, though, and don't change topics or fill in with random stuff. I know that not having a specific focus is always my downfall so I'm working on that, trying to stay focused. |

I need to state this more clearly on my blog though. It's still very young and I've had a hard time defining it.

I would say blog when you have something to blog about. If your subject matter interests you, it won't be too long before you think of something new to write. Try not to leave blogging more than a month though, cause you then get out of the habit and the blog dies. Don't worry too much about regular readers, they'll pop in when they've got time. The best blog traffic comes from Google searches looking for something that you've written about, and that depends on how big your archive is and what quality it is. |
