Is their money in Freelance Writing? If so, how do I begin or improve the one I have now? I am trying to figure out what I how I can improve my existing one. I just graduated with an AA in English and I am going to take a break from getting my BA and focus on running my own Copywriting business. I also have a regular job where I do Marketing/Sales and Writing that has helped me improve my writing. The company is called RoseCart. My main goal for the future is to do Freelance Writing part time as I work at a non-profit company doing Marketing. My problem is I do not know where to start. I have been running a Blog for about 6 months and I have been running my own Copywriting business called Niche Copywriting for a few months as well. I have made about 200$ thus far. I am hoping to improve that number to 1,000 monthly. I make about 1,000$ part time from Rose Cart and about 300$ from my business. I know that I can live on 3,000$ monthly with no problem. I also, intend to move out in about 1 year. I am trying to save money and continue improving my writing business. I would love suggestions, tips and anyone else who have done similar or the exact same things as I am trying to do. Please, share your experience with me. My Blog and my Freelance Writing site: Leon Basin and Niche Copywriting (Writing Portfolio) Thank you all so much for your help. I love this forum and I am thankful to have everyone here to help one another out. |

Hi MisterEThoughts, Well I would say copywriting is possibly a very sought after skill on the internet. While it is possible to join various freelancing sites, personally i would recommend becoming an affiliate of a certain product that you believe in. After all essentially if you wrote for someone else, they are affiliates of something and their end goal is to promote something using your article! So why not benefit yourself. The search engines LOVE unique content, so if you are writing things yourself as opposed to the many out there who copy others work. Your articles can get into top search results- and your blog if you update it enough! This way you can create articles related to the product you are interested in. Basically you do not want to directly promote it, but rather giving people useful information related to the product that would entice them to further purchase or subscribe to what you have. (e.g. writing about leadership skills and have a link that sells a leadership program in your resource box). your written articles can then be submited to article directories which have existing traffic and are always looking for authors as well as put them in your blog. You can get an automated article submitter to do a lot of this work for you, otherwise it can be a mundane task! Hope this helps, |

I am looking into a similar thing and have just read an excellent book by Peter Bowerman called "The Well-Fed Writer" which is full of great tips. Amazon will direct you to others, I believe Robert Bly's "Secrets of a Freelance Writer" is also popular although I haven't read that so can only attest for the former. Good luck! |

I used to do copywriting before I moved into 100% magazine writing and book authoring. I agree that you should read Peter Bowerman's and Bob Bly's books. You can also find a lot of good, free information on Peter Bowerman's site and blog: The Well-Fed Writer - Self-Sufficiency as a Freelance Writer in Six Months or Less. To build up samples, you may want to offer your services for free for a cause you believe in...for example, I did some writing for the SPCA. Lots of people will ask you to write for free for exposure, but I would only do it for a good cause -- not for someone making a profit off my work. Good luck!
