Default How many visitors to generate $500/month?

Hi guys,

Can anyone give me an idea of how many visitors it took you to get to $500 of AdSense income a month from your business? And I suppose importantly, how many pages of content/posts you have to drive that?

Thanks. I've started my blog (yay!). Waiting until I can post and edit enough content to get AdSense before starting to "promote" it - no point in getting visitors who show up once and don't bother again because I don't have more than one half-decent article.

A target number would be helpful when I get to that point (won't be long, have a growing list of article ideas, some existing drafts etc.).

Cheers!

putting the cart before horse
This is the shout you are going to get from this forum.

Anyhow, there is no correct or scietific answer to your question, as revenue varies for each ad and Adsense ads are related to site's contents.

My guesstimate is, about 30-50K visitors.

:-)

But if you get a horse without the cart in mind, and find out you have a great fast, jumping hourse... but it's just not cut out for pulling that big old cart, then you might as well not have a horse. Sure, you've learned about horses... but not the right sort.

I know how to develop the horse. I just want to know what is a realistic target to reach what I consider a significant monthly income (an amount which makes the subjects I will be writing about 100%+ self-funding), and how long I will need to get there.

I'd like to think with serious focus I could do it in a month. With reasonable focus, 2-3 months and with what I expect to put in, 3-6.

Nearly no blogger that wasn't a public figure before he started his blog archieves enough traffic for that purpose in 2-3 months.

Swannie -

The ballpark figure is $10 CPM, which is $10 for 1000 page views. By that count, it takes 50,000 page vews to generatae $500. Of course, it can be more or less depending on your niche and how effectively you display ads (example - ads in line with content, versus ads off in the bottom right corner where nobody sees them)

That's true. Normally you have to wait for at least a half year before you have any success at all!

I guess it depends on the topics you cover.
I cover Forex, Gold, Oil, Stocks .....those readers will often look at offers from Adsense since Google does a great job matching content.

That's an impossible question to anwer. It all depends on:

- What your blog is about
- Your ad placement
- 'Keyword pricing'
- where your traffic is coming from, ie, you could get to the front page of Digg and have 50,000 people visit your blog before the end of the day, with total earnings being twenty bucks. Or you could have 50,000 people coming from search engines to actually look for something, and you'd make a killing.
- etc

To make 500 a month just from Adsense, though... Hmm, doesn't sound like a great plan to me. AdSense is not very interesting unless you get insane traffic anyway. You need to couple it with something else to make good money. 500 bucks in AdSense earnings from a blog in just one month is actually not very common these days. Sad but true.

Sure, Steve does very well with AdSense, but he has the traffic, the SEO, the ad placement etc.

You'd be better off diversifying with, say, affiliate products that are well suited to what you're blogging about. At least, that's my opinion. I'm no guru, but I have learned at least SOME things from this stuff so far.

Assuming a 1% click-through ratio and a $0.20 average click revenue --> 250,000 visitors per month.
