Default Can a check be cancelled while being processed?

I'm quitting my temp job without a notice (long story) on Friday - the same day I'm getting payed. Problem is, it takes a week for the check to get processed. My question is, once I quit can they somehow cancel the check before it gets processed, or will I get the money no matter what they do?

Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer. This is not legal advice. If you need legal advice, you should contact a lawyer licensed to practice in your state.

Functionally, I think they could stop payment, yes. If you're planning on going out with a bang, you should probably tone it down.

If you're just worried about them being dishonest and refusing to pay you for services already rendered, it would be wise to go in with at least a bare understanding of your country's/state's employment laws. Some US states have laws which prevent any sum from being withheld from payment, with criminal penalties backing them up and a government funded office which enforces the employment laws and assists employees. The honest, calm promise of legal trouble may prevent even an unscrupulous employer from violating employee rights. Not my preferred way of operating, but it helps to carry a big stick if dealing with wolves.
