Default How I chose a business name

The business name I chose for my coaching activities was 'Mind Meadow'. The reasons were thus:
  • It uses two words which would rarely sit together so would be memorable and easier to search for online
  • It has a certain flow about it
  • It makes a connection between Mind and Meadow that implies relaxation and the warmth of a summer's day. If I'd called it Mind Power for instance it has a totally different feeling.
The idea behind the business - which I admit is not in active service at the moment - was to give people time out away from the stresses of the working day in an environment away from the normal distractions to enable them to reassess where they are and where they want to go. It was a chance to clear away the thoughts that are holding them back.

I did have some positive feedback on the name when I first came up with it:

'I liked that because it immediately makes sense and kind of rolls off the tongue. Also mind meadow stuck in my mind for a while, it conjures up images of tranquility.'

'I like Mind Meadow. Makes me feel relaxed. Kind of says where you want to be:
before: mind muddied and nothing growing
after: mind luscious with poppies, cornflowers etc.'

'I have to say I love 'mindmeadow'. To me it just conjours up images of when I do my best thinking. When I'm somewhere away from the world, like on a hill or by the sea and you just stare off into the distance and put your life into perspective. It's catchy, descriptive and rolls off the tongue. I respond emotionally to mind meadow, and I think when your at the point of really feeling frustrated and like you need to get your life in gear you are generally quite emotional. It calms you just thinking about the words!'

'I vote for Mind Meadow too! Sounds like JUST what I need at the moment! To sit in the middle of a meadow, in the sun, with someone to help me decide what on Earth I'm going to do with my life! Stick with the current job, find a new job - or start up my own business?'

Getting some quality feedback on how emotionally we react to certain words was very interesting and helpful. It clearly makes a difference and if you can strike the right note people will react accordingly.

To be honest, I had to search out these comments and was quite surprised to re-read them. I do have the www.mindmeadow.co.uk URL secured but there's still much to be done before I consider a relaunch. Maybe this is the time to take a fresh look and see where it takes us.

Oh, and here's the graphic I created at the time to go with it...

How did you choose your business name?
