Smile Ideas for a new tagline?

I want to improve my blog. At the moment I'm reorganizing it completely and trying to fix a few nasty details. I also need a new tagline, because what I want to write on it has changed.

When I set it up, I thought I had nothing of real value to contribute to the world. As I'm a scanner, trying out many new things all the time, I thought I'd just write about that. I love writing and felt the need to share all these great things I was discovering. My idea was to make a nice little blog with articles about many different interesting but unimportant topics on it, a blog that people would check when they're bored or have five free minutes and feel like discovering something new. So logically the tagline was "learn about things you're not interested in". The idea was to make them discover something outside of their daily life, something they're not interested in (yet).

I still like this idea, and I have a lot of unfinished posts about all kinds of subjects from heartburn to mathematics...

But with time I noticed that what I really feel drawn to write about are more serious things. For instance in my drafts I'm working on big series about how to overcome depression and how to quit smoking. These are challenges I experienced myself and I have a lot to say about it! I think this could be of real value to some people. I'm also planning on writing about other important topics. I'd like to share my knowledge and experience to help others in a practical way. This doesn't really fit in the concept of "nice little things you're not interested in", but it's much more attractive to me now.

I still want to write about heartburn, mathematics and all other harmless things I discover, because that's just how I am. But mostly about the more important stuff. Thus, I need a new tagline. Some ideas someone?? Thanks

oh! lol, I hadn't thought of bringing my purpose in! What a terrific idea.

"Live Life Harmoniously" is good as I'm all about Harmony. Maybe "Living in Harmony" sounds better? with nature, with animals, with fellow humans, with yourself, with your higher self, with your body, with your emotions, with what's around you and your interests... living in harmony has many aspects.

But my purpose has something to do with flow too, flowing harmoniously. I could take something like "Creating Harmonious Flow"? Hmmm...

I'll have a lot of how-tos, like how to stop smoking, how to overcome depression, how to communicate with your cat or how to stop heartburn... So maybe something like "How to live Harmoniously"?

Hmmm.. but I don't want to do as if I know it better and show others the way, that's definitely not the case. Plus maybe this is too restrictive, after all I don't know how long I'll write how-tos.

But I'd really like to keep the blog very practical, not so much about theoretical or philosophical questions, more about directly applicable concrete stuff.

The problem with these three taglines is that they talk more about the goal than about the content of the blog. But I'd like my readers to know immediately what this is about (content). Hmmm....

Sorry I'm brainstorming as I write. Help!!!

I would think you'd want a tag that does several things.

1) Communicate what the theme of the blog is about
2) Communicate what you are about
3) Make it memorable and really identifies and makes you stand out. So when they come back, see the tag, they remember what it's about.

Your blog is about personal development, plus fun stuff.

"Live Life Harmoniously" I think also lends an edge of Personal Development. By saying "Live Life", you're encouraging people to live life in a certain way, and thus that subtly tell them your content is going to be mainly about Personal Development, which is what your blog

At the same time, with that "Live life harmoniously" tagline, you're also telling them about yourself, that you're very much into harmony, and that what you're writing about will help them live more harmoniously. It adds a unique twist to personal development - instead of personal development to become a super-achiever who makes $1Million, or personal development to become super-spiritual, your brand of personal development is more about how to live your life in a way so that it flows very well and that you're in harmony with yourself, with life energy, with nature, with other people and with animals.

"Living in Harmony" sounds too much like it's only about you - like a personal blog about your own quest to live in harmony out in nature. Nothing wrong with that, except that's not what your blog is about - it's about how the reader can live their lives more harmoniously, quit smoking, etc. Having a "How-to" article wouldn't seem to fit the tagline "Living in Harmony".

I probably wouldn't use both harmony and flow in the same tagline - since those two words kind of mean the same general thing to you. And "creating harmonious flow" would seem to be more complicated - harder to explain what it means and for someone to understand without reading your long explanations and would seem at the initial viewer to restrict your blog into a smaller subset of subjects then it'd really be.

Yeah, that's why I didn't write the "how" in the tagline. Didn't feel that would fit you.

You can write "how-to" articles without having a tagline that says "how-to". . Steve does it all the time, and his tagline doesn't say "How to".

Hmmm, well your content is about living life harmoniously - giving very real pratical advice about how to do so on a wide variety of stuff, plus talking about stuff for fun.

We forgive you .

You know though, the tagline at this point isn't that important in my view for the success of your blog, not yet. You can let it come to you over time. You're not like Jim who is launching an adverstising campaign, thus his tagline is going to be part of his advertising campaign where he's spending money.

For now your tagline is going to only be on your blog and on this forum, and you can change it at will as you develop your blog's new direction. You can start out with some of these examples we've come up, plus any other suggestions you like that people will suggest and see what you feel fits you best. Steve himself changed taglines a number of times before setting on his current one well into having had his blog up.

So if I were you, I wouldn't worry too much about the tagline for now. I wouldn't think or analyze it too much. Instead, I'd ask myself what would be a great tagline, and just let inspiration hit you later when you're doing something else. That's what I did when I asked myself what would be a great tagline for you .

What?? My blog is about personal development? Certainly not! That's the only topic I've never wanted to write about!

Hmm... yes, this sounds true. How-Tos aren't flower-power enough

Yes, you're right. Fixing a few things, like these ugly urls, and the number of posts showed in the categories, would be much more urgent! But looking for a new tagline just is funnier

Thank you very much for your post. I'll let this brew for now and go to bed

Hmmm. Do we have a different definition of personal development? You wrote this in the OP:

I thought all of that was personal development? Helping people live life in a way that may better suit them...isn't that what personal development is about?

Oh, and I sure look forward to you removing those ugly URLS! Hard to look in my menu and try to remember whether that post I really wanted to share with someone was url p=50 or p=51 or wait was it p=45?

I like "Live life harmoniously"... it suits you.

Maybe streamline it a little? Say: "Live life in harmony"

As for the ugly urls... shame on you for not having toggled that setting already!
(it's in Settings > General > Permalinks of the WordPress dashboard)

ok, the ugly urls are fixed. And wordpress is updated too. I was fed up with reading "UPDATE NOW" every time I logged in

Jim, now that I have your attention... I'd like to show 1 post in full text on my normal blog page, not more. But when I click on a category, I'd like to have 10 posts or more there, in summary form, so that people have an overview on what's in the category. Unfortunately, there's only one place to configure this under settings > reading. When I have one post a page, I also have only one post a page in the category, which is really lame

Do you know in which file can I fix this?

I don't think you can do that by toggling a button...

Might be doable, but hacking will be involved. You could try searching for a plugin that handles this.

Oh, wait! You could also use the "static" homepage option and then make that static homepage retrieve the last post and display it in full.

The downside there is that, technically, your newest post will always have two urls (www.magicalchest.com and www.magicalchest.com/post/permalink). That's bad SEO!

That's why I asked you if you know in which file I can fix this. I was too lazy to search myself, but it must be somewhere.

Right now my latest post also has two urls, so to speak. The website itself and this particular post.

Hey, I really like Practical Harmony Thanks Lauxa!

I just asked a friend what he thinks a blog with such a tagline would be about, he said "about concrete ways to harmonize your life?" and that's exactly what I want to do!

Sorry guys, I don't like "Live Life harmoniously".

First, it doesn't sound harmonious! Sorry for the English language, but "harmoniously" doesn't sound very harmonious. And "live life" doesn't exactly flow with elegance either! It sounds like some pudding is falling out of my mouth while I'm speaking

Second, I find "live life" redundant. What am I living if not life??

Third, it sounds pretty theoretical. It could be about philosophical discussions on transcending the idea of harmony in your life... And I want to keep it practical and concrete.

I still think it's no PD. Yes, overcoming addictions and the like is PD, but... if for instance I talk about the language of horses, this is harmony (how to live in harmony with animals by understanding them), and it's practical, but it's no PD, is it?
