| Hey there. New the forum, not to Steve's blog though. He's an excellent writer and has driven me to make my own blog/forum about one of my passions. Here are my questions: 1) Google Adsense is telling me I have 78 unique impressions. I was wondering if that means 78 REAL people have viewed the site or if some of those are bots. I've made $0.29 thus far (just put this up a few hours ago) and i'm very excited to continue growing! Another question about Adsense.. What is the best way to make money from Adsense? I see they have many different 'ads' you can use, such as a search box, ad content, mobile widget. Just wondering if one pays more than another? 2) If you go to my website, (GENERAL HOSPITAL FEVER.), you will see on the home page near the bottom (copyright info, etc.), that it is not lined up with the layout. All the other pages are, and i'm assuming it's messed up because of the length of some of the posts. I know this probably isn't the right forum to ask this question on, but I was wondering if anyone knew how to fix this error? Thanks so much you guys! |

| 1. - These are real visitors. Google Adsense doesn't count the bots. - I don't know whether it's different with different ads. But what is important is the place where you put them. So when you put it in the sidebar, for exmaple, you might not be able to insert a big ad. |
| |||
| Interesting. So i'm doing decent then. I've had 90 now and my blogs only been up a few days and googles only been up for a few hours now. Woot woot. What is the search box one for? Do they have to search and THEN click a promoted ad? That'd be tricky... |

| Something else i'm not understanding is the "channels." I read google's explanation but it wasn't very "humified". Can someone tell me in English? Because it's telling me on one page i've had 3 clicks for 29 cents, and on another page i've had 15 clicks and $1.46 made. It tells me that when I look at the reports by channels. |
| |||
| Channels are just a way to organize your AdSense data. If channels didn't exist, you would just know how many clicks you had total, how many impressions you had, and some other info, and that's it. You wouldn't be able to optimize and try new things to maximize your profit. So when you use channels, you can ISOLATE each ad and see how it's doing. In your case, if you see that you're getting a lot of clicks on one kind of ad, but the cpc is low, try rearranging the code so that your higher-paying ads show there. |

| The only problem is I have 5 channels. ABC, Soap Opera, General Hospital, and a two others I can't think of off the top of my head. Anywho, they all have the same data. Is that because I just started? How can I fix this? EDIT: This is what it says in my account stats page: daytime 198 5 2.53% $2.75 $0.54 abc 198 5 2.53% $2.75 $0.54 fan site 198 5 2.53% $2.75 $0.54 general hospital 198 5 2.53% $2.75 $0.54 soap opera 198 5 2.53% $2.75 $0.54 It's a little jumbled but it all says 198, 5, 2.53%, $2.75, and $0.54. Meaning, all the channels are displaying the same info? I'm SO confused :sigh: Last edited by ghfever : 07-11-2008 at 06:15 AM. |

Bleh! Someone clarify please? From what I understand you should choose two ads, we'll say one on the sidebar and one on the top of the page. Choose two different channels, and then see which makes a better income? Correct? Or... Not... |
| |||
| That's an unusual channel report. It either means: 1) everyone who clicked your ads clicked one of each ad every time (highly unlikely) 2) all five channels are referring to the same ad (probable) Set up a different channel for each different ad. We are comparing channels to see which ads perform the best. |

| ARGH. One more question I PROMISE! Lol! Okay, I wanted to ad another AdSense Ad on the right side of my layout, because I wanted to test the different channels. But god it does NOT want to go there. Can anyone tell me where I need to place the ad to make it go on the right of the 'posts'? Thanks! |
| |||
| You want to place an AdSense ad to the RIGHT of your posts, kind of like another sidebar? You've used "float:left" for the sidebar and "margin-left" for the content, so if you want to leave the code you have now to what it is, just use another "margin-left" to put the sidebar there. |
| |||
| Create another sidebar, just like the one you already have, but put "margin-left: -some number-", where -some number- is the width of your current sidebar + width of content page. (you may need to adjust a little bit) And place this new sidebar after the content in your HTML. So your HTML will look like: <html> header left sidebar content right sidebar footer </html> |

| Okay, wait. I got the copyright info back. I had an open tag still. Now my only problem is moving the ad from the bottom of the page, to the top. And I can't figure that one out

| I already have it set as: margin-left: 580px; And that moved it to the right side of the page, but it's still at the bottom of the page and I can't get it near the top where I want it

| Update. I've changed layouts and switched to WordPress. I've been reading a lot about it and it's SO much easier to use for me and my users. Only problem i'm having with AdSense now is the fact that my ads are TOTALLY not on topic. They're the same ads I had before, that were pretty much on topic, copied the same code and everything, but now they're completely off-topic. I feel really accomplished. I love the look of the site now, I love how the ads aren't so BLEH in my users face, they blend and are out of the way. And I love how people can comment now. Yay! I'm excited sorry
