I just gave notice at my job. I decided it was time for me to stop dreading waking up every morning. My boss was really understanding (in fact, she would also like to quit and do something more in line with her passion). She said she completely understands and she wishes me the best. I told her I would work with her on notice and she said two weeks would be fine. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders! I'm excited to get a job where I can be on my feet and active and also to work on some online ventures (but I do have a lot to learn there). Right now the only bad feeling I have is knowing I have to get everything in order in the next two weeks for the person who will take my place One thing I've thought about doing is writing for existing sites before I start my own. If anyone has any thoughts or advice on how to go about doing this I am all ears. Is this the kind of work where it's hard to get your foot in the door if you are a "no-name?" |

One suggestion for starting your journey. Do you know what your talents are? If not I would recommend taking the strengthsfinder.com test (The test in one of the books in steve's list of recommended readings). With that knowledge you can be even more effective wherever you may go. I look forward to hearing more.

Thanks, guys. I've looked at the strength finder website, but you do need a code. Do you think it would work if I check out the book from the library or do I need to purchase the book? It's a little scary, but I have a great support system and always have temp agencies to go to if needed. I look forward to scaling back my lifestyle to include more of what I need and less fluff. The funny thing is that in talent/strength evaluations I've taken before I've scored high on those things that lend themselves to working in an office. That's exactly what I hate and what I'm leaving. I'd really like to pursue writing and eventually have my own websites (I've already got ideas, I just have a lot to learn about the technical side). So, to reiterate, how does one go about freelancing online? |

I will most likely get another job because I know that I don't have all the skills I need to make an online venture successful right away. I'd just prefer a job where I can be on my feet and active rather than sitting all day in an office.

How are people in your non-online world supporting you? I found just about every single person I knew in the non-online world against me quitting and the only people who supported me quitting were on the forum Oh, and hey, with so many of us quitting our jobs (Angela, you, me, and others), we should form a club called "The Job Quitters" Last edited by seeker5; 07-09-2008 at 06:30 PM.

| Haha. I've thought of that too. I like it here, but you know the reason I am on here so much is because I'm avoiding filing another paper or writing another report! However, once I'm able to work my online stuff from home, I'll be sure to hang out again.

I was pretty surprised at how supportive everyone has been. My boss, of course likes me, but she knows how it feels to loathe your job...she is always talking about running away. My mom is supportive, just wants me to make sure I've got some kind of income coming in so I don't have to move back home

So, you're going to look for a job where you can stand and walk around - does this mean retail type work?

Congratulations!!!! I suggest SBI(site build it) ,if you are interested in some online ventures. You don't need any technical skills to start an online venture. Steve has already reviewed it. Last edited by munish; 07-10-2008 at 09:35 AM.

Congratulations on your decision to quit! My wish for you is that you will now find your bliss in the world both personally and professionally. I know from personal experience how mind numbing the wrong job can become. I wish you clarity as you take the next steps and the next steps after that. |
