Default Hiring someone to market my software

I'm planing to release my first commercial software this year and I want to hire someone to market and sell it for me while I work on improving it.

Has anyone had any experience with hiring someone to market their products?
How did it work out?

I'm considering to hire someone on a contract for several months and to see how it goes before hiring them full time. How much do they normally charge?

What if they do a bad job or not meet the quota, do I still pay them the full price?

Default Commission

Pay your salesman on commission. The more he sells the more he makes.

What type of product are you selling? Who are your potential customers?
