| I wanted to ask everyone's opinion on an issue I've encountered with SBI. I purchased SBI per Steve's advice, and I'm very impressed with it thus far. My website is up and running. I plan to make it completely informational, I have no product to sell. I want to focus on providing worthwhile content for my readers above all else. I'm wondering though, if I plug certain products or services without monetizing them (since my traffic isn't high enough to monetize yet), will it end up screwing me in the future? Is it wise to just talk about what I want to talk about (even if it means giving free advertising) and keep in mind that I'll have plenty of opportunities to monetize in the future? I just think it's kind of a Catch 22, I cant attract affiliate customers without having high traffic figures, but you cant get high traffic figures if you don't have lots of content. I feel that I can create the most content from referencing third party sites. Do you think that in the future when traffic figures are better I can approach these sites I have been giving free ads to and ask for some revenue for them to continue? |

| Well, you can ask them but nobody can tell you whether this works: It depends completely on the sites or products you advertise. Some of them maybe don't need your reference at all, some don't want to spend money on advertising on your site (they might think there are better sites to advertise). Some of them might be afraid that Google kicks them out of the index as they rent a link (if you link them). You say you want to do this when traffic figures are better... But there will be a lot of possible advertisers for your site when your traffic figures are high (and even when they're low!), so why do you want to limit the advertisers on the few you chose now? Or didn't I get it? |
