It usually takes AdSense a while to catch up with the content of your blog (and start matching ads). On a recent blog, the first couple of weeks I mostly got Public Service Announcements served on AdSense. After I started adding more content, the real ads started showing up.

By promoting your site. Putting a link in your sig would be a start.

| Hi Rosie The problem with blogs is that you can spend hours writing good content but no-one ever reads it unless you market it effectively. This is the Number 1 rule in making money online: get lots of traffic. Unfortunately you can't expect the search engines to do all the work for you. In fact, you wont even get ranked very highly for your search terms unless you have lots of in-pointing links from web directories and other respected websites. If you are keen to make money from a website, you could try Site Build It. It gives you a step by step guide for how to build a website (and all the free tools you need), how to write great content, and importantly, how to create strong traffic flows. I used it to build my site on lucid dreaming and I highly recommend it. Otherwise I would recommend marketing your blog as much as you can - on social bookmarking sites and the like. But read up about it first, as you will need to invest a fair bit of time to make it payoff. If I were you I'd think about turning your blog into your own website with a unique domain name and all the advertising you want... Good luck!

Rosie, it takes a lot of time and effort to build an audience, especially if you are writing in a niche where there are a lot of blogs. The thing to do is to network with other bloggers in your niche. leave comments on their blogs, post on forums that are pertinent to the type of blog you write. Keep writing and perhaps you might get some traffic!

It's true that great content is wasted without traffic, but lots of traffic with no content is just another scam. It's the combination of both that makes a great blog - the traffic gets people to read your content (and do whatever you make money from), and the content creates more traffic once it gets a little exposure. With that in mind, a simple way to get started is to make your content go to the traffic instead of having the traffic come to you. There are millions of sites that would be happy to publish a well-written and interesting article, with a link back to your blog at the end. Do this well and you can even be paid to write on other sites.

Good advice from 1000feet! Rosie, I am writing an e-book on ways of generating free traffic. I was writing it as an article as 1000feet mentioned, but it has blossomed into several pages and I'm still not done. I'd be willing to email you a rough copy to get your feedback on it. Just PM me. P.S. It's in PDF.
