Default PPC Thread

Just thought I'd start a thread on this for anyone using PPC advertising on Google Adwords, Yahoo SM, or MSN....

Any tips, tricks, frustrations, or other experiences to share?

Has anyone started using the beta test of the Yahoo Search Marketing upgrade?

I'm a search marketing person, but have stayed more on the SEO side rather than the PPC one.

That said, I'd highly recommend Andrew Goodman's book, "Winning Results with Google Adwords." Andrew's collegue Mona also recently published one on Yahoo's search marketing program, but I don't remember the name offhand. You should be able to easily find Andrew's book via a Google search.

I know Andrew personally, and he definitely knows his Adwords.

That's great...I think it would be great to see more info on using Yahoo. Everyone focuses on guides for Adwords but Yahoo can be just as frustrating at times.

With Adwords...once I understood their quality score component and how to group keywords...my CPC went waaaay down. And no more inactive keywords asking for $5 or $10 CPC.

Adwords is much, much too expensive for my tastes, and I receive less than ideal results...I've had more luck with Adbrite.

Yeah, Adwords is tricky. It can be very competitive as well so you have to be ultra targeted and highly relevant. Google rewards people for this with the quality score..kind of like a credit score. I found that some keywords I was bidding on 3 or 4 months ago and paying like $.40 cpc I am now paying around $.10 cpc and have top position. Also, opting out of their content network has been key for me...the content network traffic does not convert well for the most part and will drain your pocketbook unless you set a separate bid for it that is very low.

Very good to know about Adbrite...I have not used them but will definitely check it out since you've had good luck with it.
