I'm interested in starting my own game development studio. Initially with myself as the owner and only employee. I've looked into it and LLC seems to be the best way to go in order to avoid having my pants sued off me in the case of something going wrong. I've also heard that banks are far more likely to lend to LLC's than sole proprieter or partnership companies. What are some good resources that I can read to find out about the following: 1. What does it take to start a business. 2. Taxes and reporting (more important once I have employee's) 3. Anything else you might think is important. I can move forward with developing games but I'm not quite sure how to proceed with the business side to this. My eventual goal is to have a largeish studio with 50-100 employees. Not immediately mind you as I'm starting from near broke and by myself. So I'd have to make money in order to hire in order to make more money in order to hire more people. Eventually I want to have a decent sized game studio. Any comments or suggestions are appreciated. |

Preliminary Google searches provide the following: Checklist: Starting a Limited Liability Company (LLC) - Small Business I just glanced at it, and it seems OK for your purposes. Five Realistic Steps To Starting A Game Development Company | Make It Big In Games This seems like a good read too, although you may very well know everything there. It can't hurt. All of the fees for making an LLC should be tax deductible, so see an accountant in order to cash in on those deductions.

Stay under the radar for as long as you can........ to have a business license just to say that you are a business man and feel like a big shot is no good. I for one was in business for six years with two of those under the radar and only became "official" when I started making money. If you were to register and din't make any money you would be in their hit list for ever, be smart and stay small.
