Default getting a first job out of state

I have been out of college for almost a year and cannot manage to get a job in my degree (Marketing) or any type of entry level position to get my foot in the door. People tell me that I need to look outside the state(Indiana), but I have also heard that with no experience, it is very difficult to have success in conducting an out of state job search. A lot of people have told me that most companies only consider local candidates for entry level positions. I didnt intern or have any type of practical experience while I was in school. I do have some retail management experience, however. I would think that this would be enough to even get some type of entry level sales position, but I guess not. I would rather stick to marketing than sales but I rarely ever see any entry level marketing positions advertised unless its those "fake" marketing companies that will take anyone regardless of degree or experience.

What should I do? What is the key to landing the first job out of college? Is it next to impossible to get a job out of state, before moving, even if you offer to pay your own way to move?

How many time did you spent in the last month writing job applications?

Well, I spend probably a couple hours a night after work browsing through jobs and trying to figure out how to perfect my cover letter. I probably send out about 2-3 resumes a night. I just dont see alot of stuff where I suit the experience/qualifications needed so I dont apply. I dont want to waste time
