Default How did you organise your Blog? Communication of Ideas to your readers

How did you start to organise your blog? (Practicly speaking, what steps did you take?)

I am starting a blog and i am overwhlemed by the millions of topics and ideas i have about communicating my ideas to the readers and i dont know how handle it.

How do you communicate your ideas on your blog?

I dont want to just write articles (Altho i love it!), but i want to go an extra mile, by using pictures and diagrams and even videos and audio to get my messege accross. But i havent started my blog yet, only doing research, and i am already overwhelmed with how i want to start this.

Did you guys have the same problem? How did you deal with it?

I know i will have articles and pictures in my site. But i dont want to appear in the videos (just really dont think its something id like to do). Do you think communicating ideas on a video without me in it would make a negative impact?

Basically, i am confused where to start. I know research and reading is the main thing, as well as writing down my thoughts in my journal everyday about this and what i have learnt. But how can i organise?

My mind is a clutter right now so need some guidelines. Thank you!

That's a tough one!

For me, the first step would be to define an overall topic for your blog. It doesn't have to be anything too narrow, but it's helpful for creating and managing your ideas. Once you have your central theme, start writing down what you'd like to know about it. For example, a blog with a central theme of "personal development" might have topics such as "managing your time", "creating better relationships" and "getting organised".

Using the list you've created, you can start organising things into categories. I wouldn't worry too much about these, as you can give articles multiple categories. It's best to create a more general set of categories. So instead of a category called "time management tips for at the computer", you could have "time management" and "Computer tips" and tag a post with both.

I wouldn't get too worried about categories being perfect. Just look at your blog for a reader's point of view, and ask yourself two questions: "What am I looking for?" and "How do I find it?" Make it as easy as possible for a visitor to answer those questions and you're all set.

As for the videos, I can't see why it would be a problem if you weren't in them. Having said that, it may help your readers to connect with you if they can put a face to the words.

Hope that helps

Default plan

hI,

if I were you I would make a plan of where you want it to be in 5 years, explore what others are doing and take your time to get the foundations right.

What blog are you using? wordpress or google?

dave

Have you checked out ProBlogger or Chris Garret?

Both of these guys will give you some ideas on how to set up your blog.

You might also just start a blog and experiment. You can always create the real one that you are planning later on.
