Hi! From time to time, I receive e-mails from American companies that more or less boil down to: "We may have some business for you! Call us now at XXX-XXX-XXXX." I never know what to make of these things. If they're so eager to talk to me, why don't they just call? My phone number is listed right next to my e-mail address, for crying out loud. I'm inclined to toss 'em all out as spam, but most time the sources seem respectable enough (i.e. decent website that lists phone numbers, address, etc.). Just in case this is some business practice I'm not familiar with: is it a common practice for US businesses to ask potential clients/contractors to call them back about a business offer? If not, then I guess it's just another form of spam that my filter can learn to discard |

It's SPAM. I am amazed at the new and creative ways people try to swindle others out of money all the time. The newest thing to hit my inbox are emails from the "IRS". Is all I have to do is click on the link in the email to their site and type in my SS# and bank account numbers and a refund I didn't even know was coming to me will be on the way!! The other thing that is happening more and more is text messages from businesses that say "Please call us" If you reply, you get solicited. Since I am on the "Do Not Call" registry, this is their semi-legitimate way of making sales calls. |

Totally awesome if it's true, of course... but then, if I were the A&R guy trying to secure a deal with some musician, I'd be the one calling... | |

Spam spam spam... Don't even wonder. Delete. How many people have to get sucked in for the message to be clear? If you didn't sign up for it or don't know the person sending it: IT'S SPAM!! But just the same, you curious people keep food on my table and a roof over my head....my husband fills his days and nights repairing the computer disasters that email-curious people do to themselves... I'm not worried about them calling me back. Again, my phone number is listed right next to my e-mail address because the people who actually do business with me need easy access to that information. All e-mails I received form these guys included a line saying that if I provided a contact number, they would call me. I provided the number in my replies and they haven't called me, so I guess they weren't so serious about doing business after all. Their loss. |
