Default Need book advice (for reading...)

Hey everyone!

I have been contemplating some LARGE lifestyle changes recently. I'm a senior in highschool, and I'm considering not attending college. I have a scholarship to my local university (ASU), but for my major (creative writing), I don't think attending college is the best choice. I feel that hands-on experience would provide much better real-life results than getting a degree.

I am highly considering starting a blog. I have one right now documenting my process of going Raw, and I really enjoy updating it and informing others of what it takes to eat all raw. I hope that I can help other people achieve eating raw as well.

Now, my reason for this post is to find out if anyone has any good book reccomendations for general website development. I read Steve's "How to make money from your blog" article, and It was a very big eye-opener for me. To be honest, I know nothing about website development. The things Steve listed that one should be familiar with was pretty foreign to me. So does anyone have some book reccomendations that could at least introduce me to some of the necessary topics?

Thanks!

Do you want more information about blogging & writing or website development (as in coding and design)?

Thumbs up

You may want to consider asking a different 'section of the forums' if you are asking about a "raw foods" books!

Best wishes,

Andrew

More on the side of website development. These are some specifics Steve reccomended one learn in his "how to make money from your blog" article.

* blog publishing software
* HTML/CSS
* blog comments (and comment spam)
* RSS/syndication
* feed aggregators
* pings
* trackbacks
* full vs. partial feeds
* blog carnivals (for kick-starting your blog’s traffic)
* search engines
* search engine optimization (SEO)
* page rank
* social bookmarking
* tagging
* contextual advertising
* affiliate programs
* traffic statistics
* email
I don't know anything about the bolded parts, which means I have a lot of learning to do.

Start by googling term + "tutorial" cause you're still at basics. Past that there is a few good books but I would start with forums.

Webmaster Forum - Internet Marketing & Search Engine Forums
WebmasterWorld News and Discussion for the Web Professional
The Warrior Forum (content)
SitePoint Forums: Resources, Design, HTML, CSS, PHP, ASP, MySQL and more for your web site.

Thanks for the replies everyone! I think I'm going to use [url=http://www.bluehost.com/] to host my site and use Wordpress for the blogging function. Does that seem like a fine basic, intro into my website?
