Default Online store?

I am thinking of making a simple online store to sell my items to anyone with a credit card/paypal, etc. but I have no idea how to do html or code in those other languages and I'm pretty much a total newbie when it comes to making sites.

Is there a place where I can get the whole system put together with a themed layout that I can choose and edit, while not having to worry about the money transfer system?

Either that or maybe something like an ebay store or something... Anyone ever try that? I'm trying to find a free alternative.

Thanks.

All depends on what your looking for and the direction you plan on taking the site

Are you going to have 1-5 items, 10-100, 100-1000.

What do you expect your daily volume to be?

There's a ton more I'm just blanking at the moment

OS Commerce is the old standby.

Personally I'm looking forward to someone making a good drag and drop cart.

I'll be listing like 10-100, and it'll be a slowly updated list.

Just to be clear, i'm going to be selling weapons and swords and such. I just want to be able to list the items by name or type and have an individual page for each item with a couple of pictures and a discription.

That's pretty damn cool, never seen a drag and drop cart like it before.

You can probably start with Dan's suggestion of OSCommerce to look at first.

that's a good idea for a drag and drop.

The OSCommerce, I took a look at it and downloaded the zip file, but it was full of files I had no idea how to use. Like I said, no idea how to code html or java or php or anything...

I guess this is also sort of a question of how to make the website from the ground up... If this is too much to explain, tell me what I should look for before I could use this OSCommerce thing.

You can't run an online store without some knowledge of web software / database installation.

My first shopping cart site took me more than six months to finalize. You tried for less than one hour..

Yahoo Stores

Amazon Stores

Ebay Stores

They might have fees and such but they exist to take the technical part out of setting up an online store.

@ Wilford,

What you are looking for is called a "hosted shopping cart."

The ones 1000feet listed (Yahoo Stores, Amazon Stores, Ebay Stores) are your best bets.

When I bought my domain name from Godaddy, I noticed they have what they claim is a very easy to use shopping cart. I'm going to try using it.

Hi Angela,

I like zencart and for more simple stuff I used to use cubecart. Zencart is full featured and has a little learning curve although not as much as Oscommerce. Cubecart has a lower learning curve than any of the others I mentioned here.

Yeah, I still don't know any of the basics, but I will change that sometime soon.

I'll try out the premade stores first, and eventually try to make my own.

Angela, if you can get the godaddy one to work, tell us. I'll probably use them.

okay. If that proves to be too much hassle, I understand I can just use Paypal, right? Just for one or two service "products" that I'll be offering. that's not so professional looking, though, I think.
