| My wife and I work with three different MLM companies (two we just started). We learned valuable lessions along the way. From my point of view to be successful in network marketing you must: - Believe in the product (products) - Be prepared to work, you don't earn money by sitting at home (even some MLM companies promise you this). The more your work the higher your income will be. The big rewards come after one or two years. - Stay committed, I know of many people that joined a network, had a few successes at the beginning and then left after business got quite for while. - I like to join a network at the beginning, I won't join anything that is around for years as I believe it is a harder sell. Saying this there are many people who are still successful when they get good training from their upline. - Almost forgot the most important one: Set clear goals what you would like to achieve, which ranks what kind of income by when. Wishing you all the best!

| Network Marketing is all about doing small actions on a consitent basis, as well as creating momentum. So keep that in mind when times get tough. Also, you aren't going to be very successful if you try and land "big accounts", but by duplication. May I ask you, why Herbalife exactly? I am always interested in peoples reasons for different companies.

| In my opinion, before you get into network marketing, you should become an expert marketer. With these types of businesses, they claim they handle everything and all you need to do is get people to your site. That's true, but I have found that getting people to your site can either be very expensive (if you buy the advertizing package your company offers) or very difficult (if you try to do it on your own and don't know how advertizing on the web works). I have tried network marketing at the end of 2006 and early 2007 (PAS and Prosperity International). Unfortunately for me, both companies shut down. However, I have spent enough time in them to really see how difficult internet marketing can be when you don't know what you are doing. So, I have decided to become an expert marketer and learn how to make profit from AdWords, AdSense, article writing, etc before getting back to network marketing. Good Luck to you! René |

Network Marketing and Internet Marketing are two separate disciplines in my opinion. For me I think Internet Marketing takes much more work, but can provide good leverage of technology. Network Marketing is about meeting and helping people. Many people think that because the companies give you a wide array of tools, that the whole thing is going to work for you, and that is simply not true. Regardless of what kind of marketing you do, it all takes work.

| thanks for the opinions I choose hervalife because I dont know any other prodcts thats sells in this way and the other reason is that one of my best friends is making more per month than my fathers wage in less than one year working on this company... its a reference. But Im also looking for something that allows me to focus in my studies too. this guy also study in a good university and do sports. my mision this semester is this: -passing all my classes -make at least US 600 per month for personal expenses (this amount is higher than you think because the cost of life in my country is lower) -excersice at least 3 times a week -enter the silva method course and practicing it thats why if any of you would like to help me achive those goals, specially with the network marketing goal, I would really apreciate it. tks |

| I agree with AttractIt -- if you're looking to make a significant amount of money in network marketing, your income will only grow as fast as you do. In other words, you have to Be a certain kind of person to earn a $50,000 a month income. Or a $10,000 a month income. Or a $100,000 a month income. With that said, here are some thoughts I'd point out to anyone who wants to make a large income in network marketing: Be careful who you take your advice from This is good advice in any area but particularly in network marketing. There is no shortage of people on the Internet who will give you all kinds of input about what they think you should do to be successful in network marketing.....but, most of them are probably not earning $500 a month in their network marketing businesses. Similarly, it's not just about the money. If someone is earning $20,000 a month but they're doing it by spending 10 hours a day on the phone and accosting all their friends and relatives with their business....well, you probably agree that the money isn't a substitute for being able to enjoy what you do. So, take your financial advice from people who are living the way you want to live. You wouldn't take health advice from a fat, sick, doctor. Why take financial advice from someone who's not earning/living the way you want to? It's not all about the product The MLM Graveyard is full of people who joined a company because they had a great product....and they went broke. FIND a good product; I'm not suggesting you do otherwise. But, you should also understand just because you have a great product doesn't mean that the pay plan is going to get you where you want to go. Think like a merchant, not like a consumer MLM is largely full of people who have never owned any other kind of business. As such, they often jump into things because the presentation sounds good without ever sitting down to figure out whether the opportunity is a good deal for THEM. Example: most people in MLM have no idea how many customers/distributors they need on their team to break even. Further, they never bother to figure up how many customers/distributors they will need in order to reach their income goals. That's a mistake. And it's largely the reason why so many people fail. They never sat down to do some basic 3rd grade arithmetic to realize that they're going to need, say, 40 people in their group just to break even on their own product purchase. Or that earning a simple $1,000 per month is going to require 200 people in their downline. These are numbers every networker should know. And 95% of them don't. Be the exception. Sit down and figure up exactly what your company is going to require from you in order for you to A.) Break even and B.) To reach your income goals. (Personal opinion: in my observation and experience, most traditional MLM plans will require you to have 20-50 people in your group to break even on your monthly product/marketing expenses. This is ridiculous. You should look for a company that will allow you to be completely in profit with as few as 2-5 people in your group. The ability to get into profit quickly is what creates duplication Generating leads is easy I absolutely cannot relate to the people who insist that marketing or generating leads is difficult. Unfortunately, this is the majority of people you will talk to online. And the reason they believe it's difficult is because their own mindset and methods have caused them to experience it as difficult. Again, in my opinion, it's best not to take these people as your advisors. Take your advice from people who are consistently attracting people into their business who are serious and ready to start a business. You'll find it insanely easy (and no, you won't need to be a marketing expert to do it. Don't delay gratification There is a pervasive myth in network marketing that it's going to take 2-5 years to make a decent income. This is only true if you join a company with an outdated pay plan that puts the lion's share of your money in someone else's pocket. There is no reason at all why you shouldn't be completely in profit in your first month and earning a significant income in your first 3-6 months. Again, if the masses tell you it's not possible or "realistic", consider that you might not be the one who's wrong. Network marketing is a fun and profitable way to make a lot of money from home. I love it and can't imagine doing anything else. Best of success to you! Tony Rush

| Hey Tony & AttractIt, thanks for sharing some helpful advice. I would like to get started in internet affiliate marketing. |
| |||
| Hi mati, I've have limited experience with network marketing but I did join one company. I started and met with 5 prospects within a week of registering for the network marketing company and then quit. In retrospect I didn't really give it a fair shot. So my first suggestion would be to look at the long term (2-4 years) and be persistent. The second point is that I didn't really believe in the product they were selling. If you believe in their product then you'll be able to sell it and earn your way to financial freedom alot easier and have more fun! If you don't believe in the product then consider testing it out yourself or doing more research. Education and information can make a big difference in how you perceive the product your selling. Good luck! Stephen Martile — Personal Development Made Simple |

| Thanks for the clarification Tony. Are you experienced with internet affiliate marketing as well? If so, do you have a place you recommend getting started or books your recommend reading? |
| |||
| Andrew, I wouldn't describe my "affiliate marketing" as experienced. I earn a few hundred dollars every couple of months with a number of affiliate deals I've marketed in the past. But it makes up such a small part of my income (and ZERO of my time and attention) that I view it as just "free money". So, no, I wouldn't say I'm an affiliate marketer at all. I make a fortune in network marketing/direct sales, though. Tony

| The Federal Trade Commission offers advice for those thinking of participating in MLM (network marketing) schemes. First check the details. A good scheme would not require you to pay (or charge) a recruitment fee - earnings should be from sales commissions alone. For example, would your friend get a commission for signing you up - if so you might want to think twice. Also, be careful of how much product you need to buy up front. There is a rule called the 70% rule (but it's interpreted in different ways). The 70% rule dictates that you should have sold 70% of your inventory before you are allowed to purchase new stock. This is to prevent unscrupulous companies overloading you with stock that you then can't sell. Above all don't go into this blind. You need to know quite a lot about selling and marketing to make this kind of business successful. |
| |||
| Just to make a clarification: there is nothing illegal about a company charging an enrollment fee or a "sign-up" fee; they are just not allowed to pay commissions on that fee. As Tony mentioned, in a legitimate business, you should make ZERO from enrolling someone else as an associate in the business. There is nothing wrong, however, with earning a commission if that person also chooses to make a product purchase. Example: Todd enrolls Billy into a company that has a $49.95 start-up kit. Todd makes no money. However, when Billy chooses to buy some products for his own personal use (or resale)....Todd gets paid a commission. This is a legal example of network marketing Also, the 70% Rule requires that a person has resold OR CONSUMED at least 70% of last month's order before placing a new order. (This is supposedly to prevent "front-loading" although I've never heard of the regulators going around and snooping in people's garages to see if they're actually doing it. ) The key point, though, is that consumption IS a legal and recognized satisfier of the 70% Rule. As far as one "needing to know quite a lot about selling and marketing" to be successful....I don't know that I agree at all. With the systems that many companies have in place today, network marketing is more about "sorting" than selling. Certainly if you one doesn't want to chase their friends and family, they WILL need to learn how to do some advertising. But, again, advertising is a relatively easy task. It takes no more savvy to run an ad for a home business than it does to sell a used lawnmower. Online marketing is made even easier with things like Craigslist where a free ad can get seen thousands of times. I've got several people in my team who are earning $20k+ each month who had never done any sales or marketing at all. They're finding the business to be very simple. All in all, the law of attraction applies: if someone thinks the business is going to be difficult....they will probably experience it as difficult. Tony

| Dear codefreeze & TonyRush, Thank you for your responses. I think I now understand more about where to start and have some general knowledge. I do not plan on going into this blindly and am going to do some more research. I plan to build up my website first, and do some affiliate marketing as a side project. Thanks Again & Best Wishes, Andrew Pavelski P.S. Tony Rush, I'd really like to join your team! (20 K a month isn't bad @ all |
