I am currently trying to sell a brand new wedding dress online. I am not very familiar with selling, but I am not stupid. A person contacted me regarding my dress and wishes to buy it with a money order and instead of me shipping the dress to them, they want to have some sort of mover come to my house and pick it up. They don't even live in the same state as me. Does this sound like a scam? Has anybody ever sold something online and had somebody come pick it up?

trixxy, This is not professional advice, but that situation sure sounds fishy to me. I'd wait until someone comes along who is willing to make a purchase from you under better terms.

Apply this simple rule (repeat after me): If it sounds to good to be true, it is to good to be true! (There are a few scarcely documented cases where something sounded to good to be true and then turned out to actually be true, but in general you can't go wrong if you live by this rule) Another practical rule for online selling: when in doubt, ask them to wire the money to you in advance. That's how I sold a guy in Belgium an old videocard for nearly full price and that's also why I still have the keyboard that some Nigerian told me he would buy from me for twice the original price.
