How Would You Market Sivatar?

I'm excited. No, that's an understatement - I'm uber excited! I think I've carved out a decent idea called Sivatar.

As some of you may know, Sivatar is a new social networking site. But it's networking with a twist - you use visuals to rake in users. These images are known as avatars, but when you attach your site (can be anything) it becomes a Sivatar.

Anyway, now that the introduction is out of the way - how would you promote it? I just plunked down $125 so we'll see how that works out in the next couple of weeks. Sites like "I am bored" and "Cool site of the day" should pick up on it shortly. But I just feel I can really reach an audience here without a big budget.

Where did you get your Avatar from? I joined Sivatar.com last week and spent 8 hours last Thursday trying to find a free Avatar with dimensions of 50 x 50 so that I could complete my application. I have already been approved I just need an Avatar 50 x 50.

Also why did you need to plunk down $125.00?

Did you choose a "safe" avatar? It might not have been approved.

You can easily find a 50x50 image on Google Images search or whip up one in any paint program. It's just a .gif or .jpg - nothing special about it.

I didn't need to plunk down $125, but I do want to get the word out. So I bought an ad... we'll see how it goes.

What exactly are you offering to people?

It's a cool idea, but from my perspective it seems more or less like a gimmick. The avatars are really just 50x50 advertisements, to be honest.

Either way, I'll give ya some support and put my site on it.

Hi and thanks for your feedback.

I'll have to respectfully disagree on the "gimmick" comment - it's anything but. It's not a place where you're going to rake in cash and get enourmous amounts of traffic (well, yet anyway). It's a social network of site avatars.

Sivatar is a way to promote your site, yes. Sivatar is also a great way to explore other sites. We also have a new chat feature which bumps up the social point by one -- allowing you to promote your site or any site for that matter.

We just want to build a community that is fun - we're not trying to make people rich or claim that in any way. When your bookmarks get stale and you're out of sites to look at, we hope that Sivatar will be your next destination.
